Crittal windows - curtains, roman blinds or shutters?

Hi, we are about to exchange (fingers crossed!) on a house which has lots of crittal windows. The house is vacant so I don't know what furnishings it previously had although I can see some curtain trackings. What sort of window covering looks best with crittal windows? I like roman blinds whereas my husband likes shutters. I think shutters will look silly - plantation ones will conflict with the lines of the crittal windows - and probably cost way too much anyway as there are lots of windows. There aren't any houses near where we currently live which have crittal windows so I don't have any examples I can look at for inspiration. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't even find anything on pin interest or google images. Thanks!

agree shutters will look wrong. difficult to say re roman blinds vs curtains without seeing the house and i think different rooms suit different looks…

What are crittal windows?

I like curtains with Crittal windows -that is what they would have been dressed with originally- but a simple blind might work. I love Crittal windows actually, I am slightly obsessed with them. .

Crittal windows are steel paned windows. Ours is a 1930s house and so has small panes and look a bit arts and crafty bordering on art deco. They are more popular these days in large panes. If you look on Houzz or google images you'll get what I mean.

hellymelly you'd love this place. In the 3 bedrooms there are 12 windows alone! I think that's why I am leaning towards roman blinds as that is most likely the cheapest option. The place needs total modernisation so there is lots to do (and spend money on!).

Just googled.

Are they just windows with little panes?

(If so, I have crittal windows and never knew). We have a combination of roman blinds and curtains.

Oh Mintie I am very Envy now. I have late Georgian sash windows but long for Crittals!

Either roman blinds or curtains. You might be better off with a window coveting that offers some thermal properties if your windows are original.

Was there any signs of condensation? If so, you might want to bare that in mind when you consider window treatments, eg you might be better going for cheap and cheerful.

I love crittal windows.

If you have lots of windows in each room I think curtains can be too fussy, I would say Roman Blinds maybe fitted above the window rather thank in the recess. Not shutter though.

What style of crittall windows/house do you have?
Art deco style or prewar original ones - simple thermal lined curtains on a track are probably best both in terms of energy efficiency and style. Or simple blinds will work aesthetically too.
Post war windows will depend on the style of the room although I'd again go simple rather than fussy as that would suit the windows. Simple blinds or curtains again.
Go for clean lines rather than fussy patterns or details.
Either case I'd avoid shutters as it's a bit of clash of styles.
