Table & 2 benches - or Table, bench & 2 chairs?

Am thinking of finally retiring my wrecked old dining chairs that the DCs have gradually ruined over the years by rocking backwards and forwards - etc! We have tried to repair them but nothing has worked. Furniture does not seem built to last any more - they are only 10 years old! ANYWAY - was thinking of replacing with 2 x benches - or do you think 1 x bench plus 2 chairs would be better, comfort-wise? Anyone out there with benches who can advise? Also - do you know if Schreiber furniture is any good? I have seen something that I really like in Homebase - but it needs to be good quality and built to last!!

a bench has no back, so will be tiring to slouch sit at

Yeah that's what I'm thinking - may just go for the one plus 2 chairs option for that very reason.

...it's not easy dragging a bench to the cupboards when you need to reach something from the highest shelf !!

We had a table and 2 benches and couldn't sit to get rid if them they were horrible.

lookover - that's a bonus for me, will stop youngest dc doing just that smile - ok going for 1 x bench for dcs plus 2 x chairs for the old codgers like myself ...

Can you not get an antique church bench from an auction house ? I would get that - with a back - and two chairs.

Have you space for a long window seat?
We have one that we use for extra guests, remove the chairs & push the table over. It's not comfortable to sit for at long periods (although we had made at the same height as the chairs) but it's great for storage.

Yes, am looking for that sort of thing.

A joiner could make you one quite reasonably. Probably less than buying a bench.
