Anyone offer on the first house they saw?

DH and I sold our flat, have been renting for 18 months. The time is right to move out of London now, with a new job for me, lease coming to an end, DD is 15 months and not panning on starting on DC2 till June.

We've been looking online for months, just to keep an eye on the market. Today we finally went and saw three houses, one of which we love. It's a good location, great schools, within budget.

But we can't offer on the second house we saw, on the first day of viewings, can we?

I've bought 3 properties and never saw more than 5 each time. I'd probably go and see a couple more and have a second viewing of your favourite place before offering unless you live in places where property goes quickly but I knew I'd found The One pretty quickly and I'm usually a terrible ditherer about small things I life like what to eat for supper.

I viewed the house that I live in now, we came home and worked out furniture arrangements for each room.

We went back for a second viewing with a list of stuff for me to fill in, sometimes silly things like where do they store their bins (we have 3 here) what view can I see when I sit on the sofa, what can I see when I stand at the kitchen sink, what condition is the sealant in around the kitchen and bathroom etc

We offered that day to the agents. I don't believe in playing games, we were in a good position, we had a cash buyer and the vendors were going into rented. Price agreed and we were done.

We viewed 3 houses in total. That was 4 years ago and this is our forever house.

We did. Ours was the first one we viewed, loved it despite the work that needed doing. We did look at two others after, but kept on thinking about the first, so we made an offer after the second viewing - £40k less than the frankly ridiculous asking price. It was turned down so we left it for a fortnight (we felt fairly confident doing this as the estate agent had let slip we were the third lot to view the house and it had been on the market for 6 months), then we increased our offer by £2k and it was accepted. Been here 10 years now.

Good luck!

Yep, we went to see our last house at 2pm on a Sunday, had decided we were having it and were in the pub in time for the second half of the rugby at 340. But it was in the same street as the flat we then owned so no concerns about area, etc.

We bought the only house we looked at. But we weren't even looking to move, it was a house round the corner that I'd had my eye on for years and we saw the sign go up at lunchtime, viewed at tea time and offered the next morning!

It is our forever house though and we wouldn't have moved anywhere else. It needed gutting and we knew we couldn't have afforded anything like it if it wasn't in the condition it was in.

snozzlemaid · 11/01/2014 21:03

Yes. 20 years later we're still here.

littlecrystal · 11/01/2014 21:05

I did not but I have a MASSIVE regrets! One year later I am still looking to buy. The first house would have been perfect, but I had to see if there was anything better, and never found anything better.

pancakesfortea · 11/01/2014 21:06

Yep. We weren't even really looking. Just saw it and.bought it. Not a beautiful house but a good use of space and a 3 bed house for money that we thought would only get us a 2 bed flat.

Still here twelve years later.

Lovepancakes · 11/01/2014 21:06

Yes we did last week. It isn't even where we'd planned to live but we felt sure as soon as stepped in!

GoofyIsACow · 11/01/2014 21:11

Yes... Do it secretly hoping you are the couple who viewed our house today Grin

HeyMicky · 11/01/2014 21:18

Goofy if we discussed oil costs then we are Smile

Thanks everyone - you are all a terrible influence. Off to do the sums
