New central heating paper work

So we are getting new central heating and before I pay them all the money I need to make sure they do all the official stuff they should. Can anyone tell me what paper work/certificates I need to ask them for? They do seem to know what they are doing I just want to look like I do too.

Thanks

what fuel?

ChippingInWadesIn · 10/01/2014 20:42

Interesting question. I would have just assumed some kind of certificate re their work and the warranty for the boiler & rads. Interesting to see what them 'in the know' say!

Gas of the mains. They had a gas fire and plug in radiators so we are updating.

If it's an unvented system you would probably want a benchmark certificate, which says it complies with regulations

Oh and make sure they are corgi registered if it's gas

specialsubject · 10/01/2014 21:11

Corgi went out a few years ago, it is now Gas safe.

you will need a building regs certificate, signed off by a gas safe registered engineer and lodged with the council. You can check on the engineer on the Gas Safe site, and also they are v. helpful with advice.

do NOT be fobbed off with a landlord's gas safety cert, two different things!

check the boiler is registered with the supplier for the warranty, and that all the conditions are met. You'll probably need to service it annually to keep the warranty valid.

We had a new boiler fitted about two years ago and on the day the installer showed me how to use the system and filled in the benchmark certificate, which he left with me (even though he hadn't done his invoice yet). He did point out he wouldn't registered the warranty until we had paid though, but this did come fairly quick.

It's worth asking around. I got three quotes, one I couldn't get a written quotation out of so he was out of the equation, the next one I asked two neighbours who I knew had used him and they hadn't been happy, which left me with our installer, who we were really pleased with.

As special subject says.

We had ours done a few years ago (completely new system) and he insisted till he was blue in the face that a building regs completion certificate was not necessary, "not heard it in 20 years" etc etc etc. Bolleaux, it was. We got it out of him in the end Grin
