Recommend me an induction hob

We've got a built in Miele hob (4 rings) on our kitchen island, which is about to give up the ghost. Don't want to buy Miele again - the whole kitchen was fitted out with their equipment before we moved in, it's 8 years old and costs me upward of £100 a pop everytime I call an engineer out (usually to tell me he doesn't know what's wrong with it Hmm). Microwave, oven and hob have all had faults with them. I've been told the hob will cost £850 to replace and over £1000 to repair.

Can anyone recommend me a good quality, cheaper hob please?

I love my Siemens but not sure it's much cheaper.
JL seem to do longer guarantees, might be worth a look.

Thanks. The previous owners took out a 5 year guarantee on all of the appliances, and they all started breaking down after year 6! The engineer told me that the microwave would cost £2000 to replace - we went out and bought a £90 one instead.

Go with Neff or siemens. Between 50-60% of Miele prices. You seem to have got unlucky with Miele, but they really are very good indeed. Neff or Siemens will last you just as long, but they aren't built to the same quality standards as miele.

We have just had this installed and have been very impressed so far.

Can't believe the service you've had from Miele, they have such a good reputation and the Miele appliances we have have been brilliant.

We are looking at an IKEA induction hob - we want a wide one and their 80cm hob is nearly half the price of the Siemens equivalent and comes with a 5 year guarantee.

Had my AEG one over a year and still very pleased. More so than I was at the beginning really as I've got used to it now. It took me a while to adjust to induction cooking after gas but now I love it and wouldnt go back.

aaaanh, had my Miele one fitted yesterday.... Am happy so far!

Thanks for your responses! I will definitely check out the Ikea one, 5 year guarantee sounds great.

I'm really disappointed as the Miele appliances come with such good reputations, and when they're working, they're fab. With the microwave, I had an engineer visit twice (with call-out charges), paid for new door interlocks which failed within a month. They traced the problem back to the grill, told me it would cost an extra £100+ to replace the grill so eventually I told them just to disconnect it and I would do without it.

There is a light in my oven that doesn't work, even if you replace the bulb.

With the induction hob, the engineer thinks there's a problem with the electronic panel.... but he doesn't know what the problem is, and thinks it will cost over £1000 to repair. I'm using a plug in induction hob from Lakeland in the meantime, it would be cheaper to just buy 4 of them Grin.

I'm just waiting for the dishwasher to go kaput.

I have an IKEA induction hob. It works fine, no problems. However when the sun is shining on it [not generally] I have noticed some scratches on the surface and have no idea how they happened.

I've been using it for 14 months and can't stress enough what a careful person I am, not heavy handed at all and clean the worktops/kitchen religiously and carefully. The kitchen has just been used for it's proper purpose, nothing else, no building work going on anywhere etc.

In view of this I would choose a better quality hob next time. It was a great price so I'm not complaining....I just don't look at it until the sun has moved round a bit Wink

We have a neff induction hob. Have had it for approx 2 years and have had no problems with it.

MrsJohnDeere · 11/01/2014 09:50

We have a Neff one which is fantastic BUT their customer service is awful. If something goes wrong it takes weeks before they'll deign to come out and fix it and they are very rude when you phone up.

Aaarrrgghhh! Looking on the John Lewis website and too much choice!

Mine is a Miele KM 497, dimensions on the spec are 55 X 780 X 520. When I get the measuring tape out though, it's about 880mm long, so I am assuming that the aperture needs to be 780mm long.

IKEA one seems to be the same size at £500. Then there are 11 at the John Lewis webpage, ranging from £699 to £1039.

Anyone got any experience of Bosch? What's their customer service like?

I do use the timer function on mine quite often though, so that'd probably be a consideration.... just don't want to part with so much cash!

Sorry.... cafesociety, does your IKEA hob have a timer function where it switches the power off when the timer runs down?

Bosch/Siemens/Neff are all the same parent company
