How long would you take to come back with a counter offer?

If you put an offer in on a property which was rejected, how long would you take to get back with a further offer if you were still interested?

Our house on the market for £190,000 and we've had an offer of £184,000. Phoned agent yesterday morning and we asked if she'd be prepared to meet us somewhere in the middle (suggesting £187,000) and she hasn't come back yet. Do you think we've put her off?

Maybe she need to clear it with her mortgage company before she can agree to the extra £3k.

We had to do this when our first offer was rejected on a house.

I think if someone was going to walk away they'd say so straight away?

Maybe she is hoping you will panic and accept the lower offer. Hang fire.

Thanks for your replies. We know she is a cash buyer who is buying for less than selling, although, I realize this doesn't actually mean she will have access money available as she may need the left over money for something else.

It sounds like a pretty good offer to me. Especially being a cash buyer!

Just an update. Agent phoned just before closing last night, usual lady dealing with this was off yesterday and potential buyer was aware of this so he was wondering if potential purchaser was waiting to speak to usual lady (who seems to very much handle the houses she values). He says potential purchasers sale is under way and her purchasers don't want to hang around so she's under pressure.

Mabelandrose, thanks for your comment. We had house valued, agent phoned to say lady particularly wants a house our style on our estate - they only come up every 3/4 years. We've done this on a one off contract for this lady to view, so house hasn't been on the open market, so that's why we tried to push it up. Houses are in short supply in this immediate area and more than one agent told us they are often getting 2/3 offers on house. Those are our reasons for trying to negotiate.
