Reinstating chimney breast - possible/stupid idea?

I'm going to view a property this week that is c.1930s. At some point it's had all the chimney breasts removed. It's not the largest of properties so I can see why, however as it has a bay window in the lounge, and I love fireplaces, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of rebuilding the chimney breast, ideally to house a period style gas fire? It just all looks a bit too modern at the moment, without a focal point to the room.
It's really putting me off the house, so my thinking is that others will feel the same, and that having a nice (in keeping with age of house) fireplace in the room will make it more saleable in the future? Or am I wrong?

you can if you want to. It will have to start at foundation level but there may already be a stump, and be tied into the brickwork. Some plaster cracking may occur. If I was going to that trouble and expense I would probably have a twinwall stainless flue put in so I could use a multifuel when the zombies come if I ever felt like it. This would also I think avoid the risk of internal condensation that can occur in disused brick flues that are not ventilated top and bottom

Some modern houses build what looks like a chimney breast, it has a small modern flue inside, but also ducts for pipes, cables, soil pipe, extractor fan which is quite a nifty way of passing them through the house. The sides can have concealed access panels. You can also incorporate wall safes and hidey-holes. You are not suppose to put mirrors or cabinets above fireplaces as it encourages clothing fires while people are standing close.
