Recommend a heating/hot water control and thermostat

Hello,

Our very old control for hearing/hot water is failing miserably. Suspect the thermostat is on its last legs as well.

Ideally want to relocate them, so want to replace them both at the same time.

Features we want:

  • programmable for 7 days/week
  • hot water advance button
  • not horrifyingly ugly

Don't need an all singing wifi option, but something reliable.

Our system is a gas boiler (not combi), with a two year old pressurised hot water tank in the loft (if this makes any difference).

So, anyone replaced these recently and love what they have?

Thanks!

Honeywell CM907 for the room stat, which has its own timer and can set different temps for different times of day and days of the week should you so desire (probably the best on the market)

If you have a pressurised hot water cylinder it is probably insulated to such a high standard that there is no need to time it, just let it heat up and stay hot unless you are going on holiday for more than a week.. You can get a simple timer if you want. I had someone comment that their cylinder wasn't working because it didn't feel warm. It was just so well insulated.

Sorry piglet John, it is indeed a cylinder. Recovering from many a sleepless night.

Don't worry, I know about the insulation keeping it hot inside and not so much on the outside :-)

Thanks for the suggestion, off to investigate.

Just had the HIVE system fitted by British Gas and it's excellent - extremely flexible and programmable, controls HW & CH separately and it was £200 all up (supply and fit). Very pleased with it. You can control it in the house or when you are out (via your phone). It's very handy indeed. Would recommend.

Ooh, thanks H2OWoe, will have a look at that. Love the name btw
