Homebase kitchen

I've been looking at kitchens at homebase and they have a good discount at the moment. Has anyone had homebase supply and fit their kitchen?

I was wondering the same thing! Which kitchen are you looking at? We can't decide wether to go for Odina or save thousands and go for a more basic one

Pancakeflipper · 04/01/2014 19:24

Apparently not the best quality and expensive. Fitting is hit and miss depending on the fitters (but that is the same for most companies).

They are expensive. Check out Ikea as they are better quality. Also your independent kitchen designers/suppliers. We found them to be greatly cheaper than Homebase, fantastic with ideas and solving niggles when it came to fitting ( they had to design something for a room that hadn't even been built so there was some adjustments).

We had homebase and think quality and fit is great. We could have got it cheaper with independent fitter but needed finance and homebase have a good finance package.

We looked at ikea but didn't like them. Mostly high gloss and we couldn't find a member of staff to help us plan. We didn't want to take the chance of ordering the wrong things.

We had a home base shaker kitchen - the designer was good, the fitters they recommended were great. The wall units were deep enough for dinner plates (mil has mfi which isn't but may not be true now). Capped off with solid wood surface from b&q and good tiles. Looked as good when we moved out 8 years later.

Very expensive. Avoid getting appliances from them as you can get them much, much cheaper elsewhere.

Hi OP. it might be worth you checking out Wrens. We looked around for a new kitchen recently and ended up buying ours from them as they came out as good value with some fab extras you can get if your budget allows. We did have two issues with the kitchen when it was delivered but these were rectified immediately. The also do finance deals

We used a local joiner to install the kitchen for us. This was less than half the cost for fitting compared to what wrens wanted to charge us.

We have had a kitchen from Homebase and we love it. It wasn't the cheapest option but we really valued the constant hand holding and point of contacts etc. Our fitters were fantastic and they have done a really good job. Overall very happy with the whole process and adore my kitchen now!

Clargo55 · 05/01/2014 18:45

The quote we had from Homebase was more expensive than anywhere else we tried.

In the end we went with Wickes, their kitchens are made by the same company as John Lewis. We love it, they also do the lowest interest rate on finance that we could find.

Even Magnet were cheaper than Homebase. We didn't like the choice in Homebase either and Wickes gave us a 15 year warranty.

kmdesign · 05/01/2014 19:06

Homebase is really a pretty poor choice. Their Odina range is one of the most basic German kitchens and they sell them at a super premium. For what Homebase charge for Odina, you can normally have a mid range or higher German kitchen which offers a hell of a lot more.

And with their own branded kitchens, you are definitely better off buying Benchmarkx which is Wickes' trade brand.

However, my first recommendation would be to speak to an independent kitchen studio and seek out a designer. Quality of a kitchen is one thing and how well its designed is another. A £100k kitchen can be a disaster is its designed poorly while a £5k kitchen can be a joy to work in if well designed.

Dont expect to find a good designer at a shed. Anyone designer worth his/her salt will go to work for an independent where the focus tends to be design and service rather than sales targets to meet.

BananaPie · 05/01/2014 19:45

We got a quote from home base and weren't impressed. The design was done on a computer program which had no capacity for dealing with some of the oddities of the shape of our kitchen (program couldn't cope with variations in ceiling height).

The quote for fitting was extortionate - more than the price of the units themselves.

We went with a local independent in the end.

I'd say only use home base if you have an uncomplicated design in mind, and consider using someone else to fit it rather than pay home base prices!

Ugh! My ILs downsized 3 years back to a flat that was built in 2002. The flat had the original kitchen in and it was a fantastic one, superb quality, well-designed, granite work top etc. MIL wanted to make some changes to it to make it more to her taste and use. Fair enough, it seemed a bit frivolous but they had loads of money left from the downsize so why not treat herself, she likes to cook to uses it a lot! We really thought yet were going to go for something custom made to get exactly what they wanted.

They got a Homebase kitchen , why I don't know. It was fitted in the Jan or Feb a couple of years back, and when we went there at Easter and saw the kitchen for the first time, it already looked old! Poor quality all round an does not wear well. I wouldn't touch them in a million years....

Try howdens

Hagarswife · 03/07/2017 03:20

I'm so glad that I came is discussion about kitchens!!
I've looked at howdens and quite simply can't find a kitchen that I like, I'm moving into a house that needs complete renovation and would like to start with the kitchen although I only have 4.000 ATM , and I've not moved in yet.
It's really important to me to have a cottage style kitchen as I'm moving into a cottage.....
Any advice welcome.

Hagarswife · 03/07/2017 03:30

The problem is that I really am not keen on the other kitchens that I've seen and Homebase's seem to have the only one that I like.
I could get a builder to fit a kitchen for me I guess ,
Howdens kitchens aren't really my type, I need a cottage kitchen look for my new home.

Englishlady1 · 23/11/2017 16:27

Mine too had homebase in and they say it is normal wear and tear laughable. Avoid at all cost.
