Getting stressed about survey...

If a leaky roof / damp problem came up on a survey would it put you off entirely or would you just drop offer / ask for work to be completed?

Clearly it's a personal choice... but I think our purchasers will be in this situation and I'd like a straw poll of opinions!! :-D

Depends how easy to fix/cost and whether it can be done before completion. Are the buyers the sort who want to just move in ?

When I purchased my place we found damp and a rotting bay window. We had quotes and got this knocked off the price. A friend had a similar problem & she did the same.

You should get your own independent quotes or have them fixed yourself, if they do request it. I certainly showed them the most expensive quotes, expecting the to negotiate on the price reduction.

Lizs- no, they're not in any hurry- actually we would be renting the house off them for a couple if months whilst we do renovations elsewhere.

Kmini- phew- that would be fine- we'd more than happily get work done / knock money off- not thrilled about it obviously but we're terrified they'll pull out!

We just sold a house that had just (and i mean the day before) had its leaky roof fixed. The surveyor didn't notice the wall was damp and that we had tried to clean the black mould of the wall. The survey came back clear. I am an honest person and told our buyer what had happened and they were fine about it. I was willing to knock a bit of the sale price, but she didn't even ask. So it didn't put them off but it may put some people off I guess.
