Roughly how much to board out a loft?

We live in an ex council semi bungalow. Have been told roof pitch is too short for a full in conversion but house is definitely too small. Could do with boarding out full space in the loft (we have easy access) even if it's only for storage. We have pipes and fibre glass exposed up there so it would need to go on top of that. Does any one know how practical this is and how much roughly per square metre?

Not much at all - think the bloke that partially boarded mine & fitted a loft ladder was around £100 a few years ago, it's not a difficult job.

We did this when we moved too. Check current insulation legislation as you may need joists to raise floor height to allow the insulation space. The boards were easy enough, bought packs from Wickes, took us about a weekend to complete...

Thanks for the replies. Sounds promising!

a recent development is to put chipboard or ply flooring, on top of rigid insulation slabs laid on the existing timbers. This is probably easier than my old method of cross-battening across the existing timbers to give enough depth for the insulation.

the rigid foam has greater insulation for the same thickness. See if you can get a leaflet at your DIY shed. IIRC it is introduced by Knauf but I expect Celotex or Kingspan would be equivalent.

It is not the very expensive small boards of chipboard bonded to polystyrene that you may have seen.
