Who do you call to fit an integrated appliance ???

Judging by the amount of water all over the Kitchen Floor, I think my Dishwasher has finally died.

I know this seems dumb but I don't actually know who you have to call to fit a new appliance if it is integrated rather than freestanding.

Lots of companies will supply appliances but no-one appears to be offering to fit them.

Can anyone advise me who to call ??

We've replaced washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer, all integrated this year. We bought from Currys and paid the £80 extra for removal and installation (per item). It was simple and efficient for us. Others with skills could probably do it too for cheaper.

We did it ourselves, wasn't very difficult. Paid £10 to have the old one taken away.

My DH fitted our integrated dishwasher himself when the old one died, and he is not great at DIY. Took him most of one morning but it worked.

We had a new one fitted by John Lewis a couple of weeks ago.

They took away our old one too .

This is why I prefer free-standing appliances.

Thank you all for replying

I am alone, with no DIY skills, so it looks like I need to go to Curry's or JL.

Am currently dismantling old Dishwasher to try and find problem, but have little hope of mending it or even managing to get it back together

is it the hose leaking at one end, or is it coming out underneath?

Notsurehowthathappened · 31/12/2013 10:13

I think it is the door leaking PG and I have noticed that the whole machine is tipping forward when I open the door.

I am wondering if a bolt holding the machine stable has come undone. Unfortunately I cannot find a way to loosen the skirting and look behind / underneath.

if it tips over it is not correctly fixed to the cabinets each side and/or the worktop. There will be brackets and screws which might be visible if you open or remove the adjacent doors or look under the edge of the worktop. If the screws are loose in their holes you will need a thicker screw of the same length. You can also clean out the hole and pack it with no-more-nails or cheap own-brand equivalent and let it set hard before screwing in.

If you do have to replace it, give thought to a freestanding machine, which slides in and out much more easily. They are also cheaper for the same quality, and there is more choice.

It is more expensive to have integrated appliances repaired or fitted because of the extra work in moving them.

Leaking round the door could be because it is not upright (freestanding ones you can adjust the level with the screw-down feet) or because the water is too full, or because the rubber seal, especially the difficult one out of sight at the bottom of the door, is damaged or exceptionally soiled.

Machines more often leak from the pump or pipes underneath, though modern ones have a flood detector that turn them off when they leak.

The kickboard is quite likely fixed to the cabinet legs with spring clips, and will lever off, starting at an end, though it might have been screwed or jammed in. If necessary you can buy new kickboard, if the old one gets damaged.

Thank you for the advice PJ. I am off work tomorrow so will attempt to get the kickboard off again and see what is going on underneath.

I can't get at the side without removing wire shelving in the adjacent cupboard and can't see between the top and the marble worktop.

My heart really sinks when I get issues like this and given the amount of bodging in this house, I get plenty of them.

Am seriously thinking of retraining as a plumber !!

Thank you again PJ.

I have managed to get the kickboard off and tightened a couple of bolts holding the Dishwasher upright. I have also cleaned all the seals thoroughly (I do use a Dishwasher cleaner regularly but of course it doesnt clean the seals) and the door seems to have stopped leaking.

So fingers crossed and touching all the wood in sight, it might be that your timely advice has saved me having to replace my Dishwasher.

What more can I say but thank you, thank you, thank you !!!
