Dehumidifiers

Anyone used these before?

Reviews are good.

Mostly sorted any damp in the house but dd's room (in the loft) has a little alcove with a fire escape and that alcove gets soaking with condensation. I open windows daily and it has a moisture trap in it but mould is growing on the wall in there and the blind on that velux is growing mould too.

Obviously I need to solve the root cause but in the meantime any suggestions on controlling it would be good.

They're only quiet on the lowest setting, which doesn't do a lot. I find they work fine just switching them on for a good blast in the morning and sometimes the evening.

Thanks, well I've gone for the non compressor type so it will still work when fecking freezing up here and will give some heat too. Will just have to see how best to use it I guess. A blast first thing in the morning is all very well but there are times that I leave the house in the wee small hours to do a 13 hour shift and dh gets the dcs out of bed, dumps them on the childminder and leaves to get a train to commute down to a different city so we are not exactly there to do it! But hopefully at least giving it a blast on the days one of us is around will help.

Blowing a gale today and it wasn't bad at all, the door to the eaves storage in her room had blown open and I think all the air circulation helped rather a lot. Doesn't help the temperature though. That is a whole other thread though. The girl sleeps with a 15 tog duvet, a wool blanket and her 4 tog summer duvet on top.

We have our dehumidifyer on all day while we are out and switch it off when we get home. Works best for us.
