Quote for new bathroom - £6,300 - too expensive?

Hi all
I'm planning a new bathroom and have been quoted £6,319 from Homebase. This is with the current offer of 20% off plus a further 10%. The fitting is coming in at 4,700, products at £1,600 (fitting isn't discounted).

The bathroom is a bog (ha ha) standard 2m x 3m. I'm having a new bath, loo and sink in exactly the same place as the current ones sit. New tiling, flooring, heated towel rail, small mirrored cabinet and extractor fan.

This seems like an awful lot to me. I'd be grateful for any comments or advice here. (Single woman who has never had a new bathroom before.)

I'm going to get additional quotes from builders over the next week but I went to Homebase because I thought their prices would be reasonable. Now I'm not so sure....

What you have to remember is when you have the shops do the fitting is they have contractors. The shop take a percentage of the money, so does the contractor. They then take thier cut begore subbing it out to someone on a really tightbprice. The petson doing the work will have no interest in reputation, and is only trying to get yhe job done as quickly as possible. They wont be paid much of yhe money you have paid so will do the bare minimum.

If you employ someone directly they will be earning more than the subcontractor, while charging you less and they want you to recommend them and to use them again. They will invariably do a better job. Unless they are a cowboy -my dp doesn't advertise as most people want recommended tradesmen. Ask around your friends are at the school. Ask to see pictures of Their work.
