Boiler woes! Can anyone help?

DH and I moved into our current house a few months ago. Previous owners did not leave boiler manual. We have never been able to set the heating timer but this did not bother us because we both work ft so just jack the heating on for an hour or two when we get home.

However today DH decided to see if he could crack it as we are going away for the holidays and want to leave the heating on timer to avoid pipe problems. In the course of mucking about with - he didn't figure it out - he decided to repressurise as it was v low.

Now, every time we stick the heating on even for twenty to thirty min, the pressure climbs sky high, even to the red danger zone on the dial.

Is the boiler shagged? Did DH accidentally do something wrong to it? Is it safe to go away for a week and a half and leave the boiler off? Any help gratefully gratefully received!!

No don't think so but don't know. We only moved in recently and don't know the service history.

Will have a look online too thanks!

I found my boiler's manual online and printed it off when my plumber wanted it recently.

Well now DH I saying he found the manual earlier and that's what he used to try and repressurise it in thr first place! So that's not much use. Hmmmm!

Probably the air vessel inside which compresses to absorb expansion needs pumping up or replacing. You need a boiler mender.

You could bleed a bit of pressure out by bleeding a radiator into a bucket. Verify that the filling loop is turned fully off at both its valves.

Thanks to all who, posted. Turns out boiler is shagged and we need to get a new one in the new year. Apparently the installation was probably a diy job Shock

Previous owner was deffo not a plumber or heating engineer. Angry

Ah the joys of home ownership.....
