Totally devastated, what will happen?

Recently received delivery of all our possessions from put of storage, from a very reputable delivery company. When the containers were opened the contents were wet, many many items ruined. They took us to the warehouse where they laid it all out and we chose which things we felt could be salvaged. The manager was really trying to play down the situation, picking up our stuff and saying "this could be alright if you dry it out" etc. No apology or sympathy.

I am pretty upset that, this close to Christmas, we have no sofas, beds tvs. And my goodness I mean to come out if this well, meaning compensated. Any idea how we should approach this; the best way to get them to act quickly? Am so upset, lost a lot of irreplaceable sentimental items :(

No experience of such a major loss, but make sure you check your contract terms and do act quickly.

We once moved house and a few items were damaged beyond repair. We went on holiday for a week before submitting the claim only to be told that claims had to be in within seven days of the move.

I would take photos and get something in writing to the delivery/storage company pronto, today if possible (don't rely on Christmas mail, take it in person or use a courier and get a signature). If it's a large claim then it may be worth involving a solicitor, and again you need to try to see one before Christmas, I would have thought.

It might be worth posting on the Legal topic/board for advice?

Do you have legal assistance in your household insurance? Worth calling them and asking for advice.

Our stuff has been in storage at different facilities a number of times. (Forces related overseas postings).

Each time one of the terms was that WE had to have our own insurance cover. The storage company insurance was always limited to approx 25p in the £1 and capped to a maximum, which was ridiculously low.

We had some expensive items damaged through incorrect storage a couple of years ago and claimed on our insurance as the storage company cover was only a quarter of the value.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you.

You need to check your terms and conditions because their will be a clause about damage and another regarding insurance requirements and their liabilities.

You may need a solicitor depending on the wording of the contract.

If you have storage insurance I would contact them and ask for advice.

I'm sorry this wasn't more positive, and I truly hope that you nail them to the floor.

so sorry. Was it in containers or in a proper storage facility?

get loads of evidence now and raise intention to raise a case. What do your insurers say?

It's pickfords and a new for old policy, based on the loss adjusters deciding which items are damaged beyond repair. But loss adjusters can't look at it all till after Xmas! So stressed :(

I am so sorry you are so stressed -can you borrow sofas etc on free cycle or some of the buy and sell face book sites? Just for over xmas and then put it in as expense for being alb dot sit etc?
