Hi all,

Having moved into our new house a few weeks ago, DP and I are now ready to decorate our three bedrooms (after weeks of sanding and filling holes and getting the ceilings re-plastered!)

The rooms are average sized in a 1930's terrace. We're going for Dulux 'timeless' on the walls. My question is whether we also put the Timeless on the ceilings and also use the Timeless gloss on the woodwork? Or should we use a 'normal' white here?

I'll admit I'm a bit clueless when it comes to decorating - it's all very new to me Grin

Personally, I'm a big fan of pure white ceilings. As for the woodwork, anything goes really - mine is all plain wood though so I don't have to worry!

In my opinion - and it's a matter of personal taste! - it looks much better when you have a white ceiling. It also helps to keep the room feeling lighter - which is what you want with a light colour like Timeless.

I like white woodwork too, but I've seen stunning effects with other colours. I've just never been brave enough to try!

One thing I would say is to try the colour on a large sheet of ply or card before you paint. Timeless can be lovely, but it can also be a bit yellowy green and cold in the wrong place (e.g. north-facing rooms). (I did it in my north-facing lounge in my last house and quickly replaced it with a slightly warmer colour - but it was a VERY cold house, so psychology probably played a part too!)

Thanks for the feedback!

The rooms are all south facing so I think it should be okay. I'm now thinking that yes, proper white would be better on the ceilings and the woodwork....

(I'm not brave enough to try anything too wild on the woodwork either!!)

I'm such a rebel. In a previous house I had almond white woodwork Shock

Ceiling paint is different - it's thicker, totally matte and typically pure white. Also I think ceilings done in the same colour as the walls looks lazy tbh.

Woodwork I think really depends on the woodwork, gloss white is good but gloss wall colour can look ok too... I'd paint it the same as the walls only if I wanted it to disappear a bit, normal cornice/skirting I'd do gloss white.

I don't think I've ever seen specific ceiling paint.

Ceiling paint... It's goopier. Less likely to drip on your head. Also more likely to make the ceiling look flat / matte and hence not draw attention to it.
