Bath-Shower Tap replacement

Could I ask some advise /opinions please?
We moved into our house a year ago after some big renovations which included the fitting of a new bathroom.

We have a bath/shower mixer for our over the bath shower (it's a tiny bathroom) and the 'pin' (?) that you push/pull to activate/deactivate the shower head, is not working properly. Basically every time the taps are open the chances are the shower head will be activated resulting in water spraying everywhere even if you're only trying to run the bath.

Anywoo - my question is: where do you think we are at with getting it replaced by the builder who did the original works?
Ideally I would like to fit something different, because I think the design is inherently faulty.

TIA for any replies!

How long has it not been working? I think if it started recently, you've no chance of getting them to sort it out.

It's not a big job to replace taps, you could pretty easily manage it yourself and this time get one with a lever to change from shower to bath. Just take off the bath panel, turn off the isolation valves, unscrew the taps and the (probably) flexible tap connectors (this will drip a bit). Then screw in new taps, open valves, check for leaks, tighten up a bit more if need be, put panel back on, bob's your uncle.

All you need is a couple of adjustable spanners, WD40 to loosen any stiff joints, ptfe tape to wrap round the threaded connectors and a helper in case you need someone to hold the tap steady while you turn stiff joints. And a copy of the Reader's Digest Guide to DIY if you don't have one already. I think our new bath taps were something silly like £60 on eBay.

thanks for that reply. i have no diy ability/ confidence - none. and if i ask dh to do it... well it could take another 6-8 years months, if i'm lucky.

it's been like this for at least 6 months - probably longer. the problem is at first it seemed like it was us not knowing how to operate the thing Hmm. now it's clear that it's faulty.

thanks again!
