Wall to wall shelving

Reckon it has to be IKEA as I can't afford the £9-£12k quotes I've had from carpenters. Gulp.

Is it the Billy bookcase range that is best?

If quote like to be able to paint it myself. Any recommendations please? Please?

How big are your walls? If you get battens rather than floating shelves it will be cheaper, ditto if you get just shelves not built in bookcases/cabinets.

Billy are good for the price but the Hemnes series looks better as a full wall, in my view. That said, we've got 2 Billys in an alcove (one single one double) and they look fab there.

Walls are like 3 metres long x 2 metres high.

What do you recommend?

I built my own of similar size. It's not that difficult - I used MDF painted white and it cost about £200 and you need a good electrical circular saw and a measuring tape.

I put a long piece along the floor, then fitted upright pieces at either end and about three or four at equal distances along the floor piece and then used small batons against the wall to keep them vertical. I put another matching long piece on top of the uprights and then cut shelves to fit in all the vertical spaces which I secured by screwing little lengths of wood into the uprights (I'm aware that this sounds more complicated than it was). It honestly wasn't a difficult job if you have basic tools. It probably took about a day.

See lala, I was seriously considering having a go at it myself.

How would you attach them to the walls?

DIY ignoramus here.
