we are moving temporarily into an old bungalow which has been lived in by an older couple who did no work, or maintenance etc.

The kitchen is small square shaped, and where the back wall used to be, has had the wall removed so now there is worktops/sink and an opening where the back door used to be. The 'extension' is really ugly, tiled in a different colour to the kitchen and is just 3 walls with big windows in each wall. Not big picture windows or french doors, just standard wide 180cm i think.

They had very old and dirty vertical blinds fitted - which i have taken down.

what to replace with?

we are intending to have a kitchen table and probably a sofa and TV and it will be a room we use - but we would like it to be cosy and nice.

The wall colour is pale neutral creamy colour.

would you suggest roller blinds? we could buy some cheapish ones

or curtains? I probably have some spare from our old house in creamy linen type material.

Would appreciate any advice

we will be living here for about a year - but don't want to completely slum it, so want it to be nice for our family.
thanks

I really like roller blinds in a kitchen. Clean, unfussy, and if you can get to and Ikea or similar, nice and cheap. A nice strong colour could work really well, as could a plain cream.

Will look for something coloured maybe?

is it not too cold?

Definitely din't find ours cold, but even though the windows faced the worst of the weather, they were in good condition and double glazed. Also, we had black out blinds, because even though we didn't need the blackout element, they give better insulation. (A big factor in the frozen north!)

thanks - two of the windows are quite wide and unfortunately ikea ones are not wide enough
Think i can source some other ones which are not too ££

I think rollers are ideal for a kitchen: well out of the way except when they're needed. If you wanted something softer-looking, roman blinds would be a sort of halfway house, and if you're moderately handy with a sewing machine you could rustle them up yourself for little more than the cost of your chosen fabric... They're not very hard.
