Bath waste pipe leaking through ceiling

Help!
House recently decorated about 2 months ago and sod's law the bath has leaked through into the kitchen.
It was fitted about 6 years ago and is all those plastic push pipe things, no copper.

The waste pipe where the water drains from is leaking big style. DP has tightened it but it is leaking.

Can we do anything ourselves to fix it or do I need to call a plumber tomorrow? Sad

DP is not particularly DIY savvy sadly

waste pipes aren't normally copper on baths, they are normally plastic. the fittings usually push together and can be held together using a plastic cement or a screw fitting using a rubber washer inside it which seals the pipe when screwed together. it shouldn't be too hard to fix though, but if your OH isn't really DIY savvy you may need a plumber or a handyman to help

well take off the bath panel for a start (it has got to come off anyway) so you can have a look and start the drying-out process.

If you have a wet chipboard floor it will probably fall to bits and should be replaced with WBP ply.

You can poke a skewer through the ceiling to let any puddle drain out.

Sometimes it helps tio take fittings apart and look at why they are leaking before trying to fix it. It might be the overflow that is loose, or has been overtightened and stripped the thread. If you have a pop-up waste operated by a lever, bin it and buy a plug, or else get quickly-detachable fittings on your bath panel.

We took the panel off last night. It is floor boards so at least they should dry out. We have a dehumidifier so that is running.

It is where the grey bath pipe meets the black waste pipe that runs under the bath to the outside. DP tightened it up but it still leaks.

Do they have a washer/ring inside that could have perished? Going to brave the spiders during nap time and have a fiddle.

The rubber ring had come off the black pipe and was inside the other pipe. It doesn't look perished so I have put it back on the black pipe and screwed it back together and it appears to not leak now. Fingers crossed!

sometimes if you use parts of different brands they do not quite fit. The compression fittings with a big knurled nut and a rubber ring will accomodate quite a range, but not pipes if different sizes (a bath waste is bigger than a basin waste). Look for a makers name if you have it apart again, and perhaps do the whole lot in one make. If the ring had come out it might not have been correct for the fitting.

You might need a pipe clamp or two to stop things moving around.
