planning permission

i got my kitchen redone last year, the builders swapped a back door to a window, they told me i didn't need planning permission. after asking around i think it sounds like i did! Is it a total nightmare getting planning permission if works already done (and is it expensive), i'm in scotland.
t.i.a.

I'm no expert but would think that falls under permitted development...check planning website for your Council.

In England and Wales you can swap a door for a window. No experience of Scotland but I would be surprised if you needed PP for it.

If unsure could you either have a look at Planning Portal here
www.planningportal.gov.uk/wps/portal/portalhome/unauthenticatedhome/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gjtxBnJydDRwMLbzdLA09nSw_zsKBAIwN3U_1wkA6zeHMXS4gKd29TRwNPI0s3b2e_AGMDAwOIvAEO4Gig7-eRn5uqX5CdneboqKgIAGUwqho!/dl3/d3/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/
It has a section called "do I need planning permission"

Or be brave and phone your local authority's planning department and just ask. It's not like you're fessing up to a major crime and a SWOT team will decend upon you. should you need planning, you can apply for retrospective consent. The local planning folk will help you if required.

Don't worry. It will all be fine. Grin

You do not need planning permission.

MsUumellmahaye · 04/12/2013 08:48

thanks pendeen :)

mrswarbouys · 04/12/2013 09:57

If you went from window to door then possibly, but I think it very unlikely you'll get busted for doing that.

My problem is I did a loft extension with all the proper planning permission etc, but without the Freeholders permission (oversight), and he's being a right twat about it now 6 years on. Sorry no intention of high jacking your thread OP. Just trying to help put your 'issue' in perspective.

MsUumellmahaye · 04/12/2013 10:02

no probs mrsw, thats a shame! hope you get it sorted out. there has been a few very knowledgeable folk giving me advice here maybe they will pop back and help out :)

Exception would be for a listed building.
