so we've exchanged on a property, we will complete in a couple of days, and move in a couple of weeks...and i am DELIGHTED with the house - it really is a dream property, with free equity built in at the price we paid for it.

this marks the end of a 2 year search for a place to live, which has involved almost daily searches on rightmove, and hundreds of calls to estate agents.

problem is, even though i should no longer be looking at rightmove, its become so built in to my daily routine, i can't stop! Shock

its not healthy, and (although i know its very unlikely) i don't really want to come across a nicer, better value property.

i'm hoping to wean myself off over the next few weeks, rather than going cold turkey. perhaps complete abstinence should be my new year's resolution?

did you experience a similar problem? how did you cope? have you managed to break the addiction? Grin

Same problem here. I guess once you move and settle in the need to do it will fade. Hope so.

I think I have looked every day for 5 years lol. Admittedly DH and I are property freaks and have a few BTL's, so are always looking for a good deal/investment.

Quite exciting right now as property is moving so fast there is new stuff on everyday rather than the same old stuff being around for months.

SaltyGoodness · 29/11/2013 12:40

It should fade once you get really absorbed in a project on the new place. Never thought I'd give it up, but 8 months after moving it's the last thing I would think of doing now there's so much else on my list that I'm interested to find out about.

In a way it is like coming on here. Eventually I will move off the property section of MN. I joined on the ttc board, moved through, pregnancy, birth clubs, breastfeeding sections and now I prowl around style and buying and home decoration and property!

We moved into our new house in Aug and I'm still receiving new property alerts from Rightmove (haven't turned them off yet). I'm still mildly interested in what's new on the market and it sort of confirms we paid the right price for our property.
I think in time your interest will just wane.

We bought 3.5 yrs ago and I still look everyday. I'm just nosy to see what houses are on the market and check out prices!

Musicaltheatremum · 29/11/2013 20:32

Ha ha. I completed in July. I still look daily and feel very pleased as nothing else has come up.

We have had our house for over a year now and still check out the market on rightmove. It has become less frequent (every two days rather than every morning ha ha) but it is interesting to see how the area is developing, i.e. houses being done up etc.

DontmindifIdo · 29/11/2013 20:52

I still check regularly (moved 4 years ago), but now I don't bother being limited to what I can actually afford, take off the max price and play "if I won the lottery, what would I buy?" game - because quite frankly, that's the only way I'll move house in the next decade.

Likewise, except's zoopla.

Rightmove or zoopla: who would win?

FIGHT

didireallysaythat · 29/11/2013 22:21

Go cold turkey. I emptied my right move email folder. More than 6000 alerts gone in a second. Very liberating.
