for these kitchen units/colour. The room is south facing with windows on two sides, sink will be an off white and appliances are brushed steel or nickel. The floor will be a dark oak.

P.S. - Not afraid of strong colours and the house is Edwardian, so should be able to cope (I hope!)

Thank you

Greys are very on trend at the moment. How about a mid grey with a pop of bright colour like a yellow. Grey can be grown up with add fun by what every bright you put with it!

Pinterest gives you loads of ideas, I can scroll on there for hours a day looking at all kinds of home decor. Take care :)

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 03/12/2013 14:26

Hadn't thought of that, will pull some colour charts on those lines together - thank you!

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 09/12/2013 22:39

Am obviously not very good at this lark - I have now tried a few yellows (on the gold end of the spectrum), but while they should work, they don't. It doesn't make sense while it's essentially a 'greige' (so neutral) kitchen, it doesn't seem to like decent colour. The only thing that looks as though it would go very nicely is birchwood and DH has vetoed me getting that as a wall covering (apart from practicality we do need to have something ready for Christmas, so timing is slightly an issue) - help!

Tobermory · 09/12/2013 22:46

How about a lovely blue?
This Breton Blue is gorgeous! Might be nice with your light kitchen units.

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 09/12/2013 23:07

It might - I may have to acquire a tester of that one tomorrow - thank you! You don't think it would be too much in a narrow room though? Kitchen is 21 feet long, but only 10' wide.

Tobermory · 09/12/2013 23:17

It is dark.
But lovely. :)

I have it on one wall of my lounge and a small section (above some tiles) in the kitchen. The rest of the walls though are quite light.

How many walls need covering? Could you have a combo of one blue feature evened up with other lighter walls?
I'm not necessarily an expert at interior decor but I love this partic shade!

CITRINE
EAU DE NIL
LEMON TREE
by the little greene paint co.
Such beautiful colours and finishes. Worth looking into their whole range.

I Love Salix by Little Greene - I used French Grey and wish I'd stuck with Salix. A dark grey or blue can also be v stylish

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 09/12/2013 23:49

I shall be looking all of those up forthwith.

Tobermory - essentially all four walls - we went with an L-shape kitchen, bottom run of units only (except for the extra high unit with oven in and free-standing fridge/freezer on the 'window' wall) and will then do floating shelves rather than wall units. That said, I am rather 'old school' on the whole paint lark and have always gone for same colour all round - I really should consider not doing that, shouldn't I?

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 10/12/2013 00:02

paper - not sure for the kitchen, but I think you may have just found our bathroom colour! (Probably either Lemon Tree or another one on there called Olive Oli) - needs to go with these wall tiles and these floor tiles Xmas Grin

Silver - I love grey in the abstract, but not in reality as while it does look as though Salix would make the units 'pop', don't know I'd use it other than in a warm climate (or house - ours isn't entirely so I may be biased... Xmas Wink)

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 10/12/2013 00:02

Or Oil even Xmas Blush

Tobermory · 10/12/2013 18:14

Moonlight....hmmm maybe?!

I'm still experimenting really with colours and how to create the look I want (tricky when I don't have a really clear idea). Sometimes it's a bit hit and miss.
We tried grey as the feature wall colour before the blue but it was horrid. Grey can be lovely I know but it didn't go at all nicely with the other colours in the room and my DH wasn't going to go 'new curtains' in addition to new paint!!?

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 10/12/2013 21:30

Well, I'm now sulking - saw the blue 'in the flesh' as it were and ditto the Lemon Tree and Olive Oil - all would have worked very nicely with the kitchen/bathroom and DH has vetoed blue as 'too dark' (did try the whole 'feature' tack) and the other two as 'too wibbly' [sigh] Xmas Sad.

ggirl · 10/12/2013 21:33

I keep banging on about little green's starlings nest, it's a delicate pale duck egg blue

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 10/12/2013 21:43

Will add that to tomorrow's search list, thank you - I think for the amount of testers being purchased I may go for patchwork!

paperdress · 10/12/2013 23:02

You know if you find a good local stockist of heritage paint (usually an independent, rather than a big out of town chain) they will have each colour painted onto a sample wooden board...?
That way, you can go to the shop with a tile/photo of units, rather than buying loads of expensive sample pots. Also, if you google a local indy stockist of one 'naice' paint co, they will often carry several others...
I'd also say dont rule in or out via internet pages of colours; these beautiful paints need to be seen in the flesh
(someone at fired earth should gis a job!)
Anyway, let us know what you choose!

MoonlightMerrimentandMistletoe · 10/12/2013 23:42

paper - I know - the actual paints are the reasons I buy the testers - even when I bring things with me it still doesn't seem to be right - never had this problem in any other place, but this one's meant to the the 'we're never moving again' one so maybe that's what's causing it?

Will definitely post a photo or two of the finished products, once finished.

LibraryBook · 11/12/2013 10:13

I would recommend you avoid anything citrus as although grey and those colours work well, they are very definite and something you may tire of. Blue would look cold and horrible.

I think you need a kitchen to look neutral and airy as there's so much going on in there. They grey is lovely but If I were you I would stick to an off-white. Farrow and Ball's Pointing is a lovely soft jasmine-y white and it would work really well with those cupboards.
