Us light can it be used in uk?

Hello,

I've been looking for a ceiling light and found one, but it's on a us website, that ships to the uk.

Does anyone know what needs to be done to make the light work in the uk?

Thank you!

Voltage is different, isn't it? There are adapters to plug in appliances, not sure about light fixtures

Transformer maybe?

I wouldn't, but someone more knowledgeable than me will probably come along.

Voltage in the uk is 2x what it is in the US, plus the hertz is different. I am North American and had to buy a step down transformer (£££ and bulky/heavy) to run my sewing machine here.

The voltage is higher in the UK so there's a big risk that an electrical appliance made for the US market would catch fire in the UK. I think you'd have to have all the wiring replaced. And I doubt if it would be worth it, unless the lamp is extremely special.

You couldn't use a transformer for a ceiling light, there would be nowhere for it to go.

you'll use it for about half a second - BANG.

why bother? Thousands of lighting designs available here!

My kitchen halogen lights have transformers, vulgarwretch - they're in the space above the ceiling

I believe I had a singularly inept electrician mind you Hmm
