Good area to move in greater London?

Hi Mums,

I work in brentford & currently live I watford which is an hours drive from watford & takes about 1 hour 15 mins by train with no direct connection. I am new mum & want to move somewhere around London which is easily commutable to brentford and also has good community & schools. Would rent initially as we have to sell our current place in watford. Any recommendations? So any smaller towns or villages nearby that are well connected to brentford & London & have good schools?

Thanks mums!

What's your budget? There's some lovely but very pricy places around Brentford, eg Kew, Richmond, Ealing. Or some much cheaper but not very nice places, eg Feltham or Hanworth. In between are places like Whitton and Hampton, which are both quite villagey in feel.

I live in feltham at the moment, but we're planning on leaving London altogether as family houses near good schools are so expensive now. The market is also rising rapidly, so I would be careful of coming off the property ladder for too long.

Hi Hobbes8,

Our rental budget is 1200 to 1400£ a month & will need at least a 2 bed house.. We have lived in Isleworth years ago but wouldn't want to go back. I love Richmond & Ealing but it may be too pricey. Will have a look at Whitton & Hampton on the map & right move to see if there is anything suitable. Is there any part of Ealing we can rent for our budget?

Thanks,

Hanwell is very nice and very well connected to brentfird my public transport - is also on the new crosstalk route, so is getting hard to buy but rental market is very good

There might be somewhere in Hanwell, West ealing or Boston Manor for that budget, or in Brentford itself. There's some nice 2 bed cottages in that area - charming but tend to be on the small side. Or you could definitely get something closer to Southall or Greenford, but I wouldn't recommend those areas particularly. Terrible traffic as well.

You should be able to find something in Whitton - it's nicer than Isleworth. The high street has some useful shops - a good butchers for example, but it's not great for pubs and restaurants if that's important to you. You'd have to go into Twickenham for that.

If you've lived in Isleworth than you'll already know about the giant sewage works - try not to be downwind of that. Good luck!

Rayners Lane? Easy commute on the Piccadilly line. Harrow is a nice place to live and good value compared to some areas of London.

Rayners lane is not an easy commute to Brentford, I think you must be thinking of somewhere else!

I lived in Ealing/Hanwell and commuted to Brentford on 65 and e8 respectively. If you want to nut in Hanwell do it now before you are priced out!

Depends which bit of Brentford. I went there from Rayners Lane the other day, got off at Boston Manor and walked ten minutes.

Hi all, thanks for your replies & sorry I haven't been on the internet for sometime.

I think we will look at west Ealing, hanwell(need to check which part is better) & Whitton & see. Rayners lane wouldn't make that much of a difference as i will still need to change twice on tube to get to boston manor & it's a 15 mins walk from there.
Thank you again for your suggestion.

Does anyone know if Kingston upon Thames is any good for commute to brentford?

xx

I can highly recommend brentford dock estate. Def within your budget and a really lovely place to live real community vibe and hidden from the rest of brentford as it's on an island between the Brent lea and the Thames. Has access to syon park and there are plenty of decent schools nearby without the sharp elbowed competition of surrounding areas...

65 bus goes from Kingston to Ealing, via Brentford. So that's pretty easy. And Kingston is a nice place to live!

pm me if you want to know anything about west Ealing, some areas better than others!
