Bi fold or french doors?

We are in the throes of refurbing- possibly swapping our ancient UPVC sliding patio doors (perfectly serviceable and very secure - they withstood a sustained burglary attempt which broke the spade they were trying to get in with! ) They are not that attractive to look at though and if we are changing flooring I don't want to mess up any floor I have put down by changing doors afterwards.

So... Which do I choose. I love the idea of bi fold and a few people have suggested new french doors won't be that secure. But bi fold seem to be £££- it's a very tall window approx 8ft (?) as it goes right to the ceiling.

Opinions very welcome. And any experiences? Thanks.

Bi fold are beautiful IMO
But very very expensive

I'm also looking at those options, but it's a small door area, currently with sliding doors. Much money for bi fold doors!

I know:( but I really like them!!

How wide? Not worth it for a small space IMO but worth it for a massive space.

Are you thinking of widening overall gap? What length is gap at mo?

How old is the house?

Do you mean wooden french windows with a transom light above?

Depends on the area I love bi fold but five years ago we opted for French doors, removed the patio doors in our dining area which were there when we moved in. We have a traditional look and the space wasn't huge so we have two french window doors and windows either side of those doors. If that makes any sense at all! I always think bi fold doors look more impressive in large areas such the length of a big kitchen etc.

french doors imo but wooden ones..they will never date and look stunning.

there's another thread running atm that predicts bi fold doors are fashionable now, but will date.

i think french doors more of a classic look and a friend had a load of probs with the hinges/mechanics in bi fold doors - had to come out.

if you feel doors will be too long going up to ceiling, you could have two small window panes above the doors but underneath ceiling to break it up.

My door space is only 4'6" wide and it would make a bigger opening than the current patio doors which only open on one (half) side. I don't think they make bi folds that small anyway, so it will be French windows for me :(

The space if about 8ft tall by 7ft wide approx- it would be UPVC - in the diner part of the kitchen diner knock through.
