Wood flooring suppliersa and logburner

I am putting in a wood floor in the new year and it's going in a room with a logburner. I have had very conflicting advice about materials. A couple of places have told me I need to go with engineered as this is more stable. A joiner advised me to go for solid.

Who is right? And do people have recommendations for suppliers please? I am after a fairly mid toned, warm floor and I want it to look like wood i.e. to have knots and stuff!

I would suggest engineered as my understanding is it doesn't expand and contract as much with temperature changes so is more stable and less likely to warp. We're putting a wood floor in soon and chose engineered for that reason.

We used the solidwoodflooringcompany big oak boards engineered wood as it was straight onto the concrete floor. We got several samples and this seemed the thickest. Quality is good as was delivery.

I just used uk flooring direct and they were quite good, cheap and free delivery. Two packets were damaged on delivery and they replaced them almost immediately. We now have engineered wood under our log burner and it is fine and looks great but the log burner doesn't get hot at the bottom anyway so I think solid wood would have been ok too.

Just wanted to add we also got loads of free samples sent from various companies. You can see the thickness and the quality and colour and compare them to find what you like best.
