Help! How do I make a room look warmer?

I just spent ages painting my downstairs living room jasmine white. I am not good at painting, and I am exhausted and completely fed up. I've achieved a decent finish, but the room now looks quite cold. It is empty, which isn't helping.

What colours should I introduce in curtains etc. to warm it up?

Don't just think about colour, think about textures & light.
Wool throws, fluffy cushions, velvet curtains - warm textures
And warm lighting - table lamps, side lamps
I've got a very warm looking completely White room like this.

A feature wall will make your room look more cosy. Paint one wall a warm colour, like red. It won't darken the whole room down but it will add interest and warmth. It works best if it's the fireplace wall or the wall with windows on.

Also, cushions, rug, warm colour of curtains.

Thank you so much for the advice!

What colours do you think would look good for curtains? I need to get a new pair anyway!

I think that depends on the colour of your current sofa and carpet, etc.

Totally agree with the texture thing. Do you have carpet, or a rug? What colour is that? What colour are the other expensive items? Sofas and armchairs? Do you have any pictures that you really want to work in? You might as well have the new curtains fit in with he stuff you're stuck with.

If you have hard flooring, do consider a big rug, or a few sheepskins scattered around. Makes a room feel much cosier. Try slinging your old tartan picnic blanket over the back of your sofa, or make some cushion covers out of last year's Christmas jumper.

Reporting back.... I have now put the furniture back in the room and it looks a lot better! I was tired and having a panic.

I just wanted to say thank you for the advice about lighting and textures: it is spot on! I am experimenting with lamps, and I have managed to get it to look much warmer by getting these in the right place. The room is currently carpeted, but I will be putting in a wood floor in the new year, and will bear the rug advice in mind then!
