Any little greene colour experts around?

I'm looking for a point in the right direction as I have spent a fortune on samples over the last months for various rooms and I just can't justify buying any more!

I can't find the right colour for 2yo DS's room.
We narrowed it down to either Pearl (bluey grey) or Rolling Fod (greige) But neither is right. Pearl is too wishy washy and too blue. Rolling fog is way too beige. We want somewhere in between (I know they're very different colours!) but not too dull or grey.

We are thinking french grey light or mid, or possibly one of the new greys, ceviche.

Any experience of any of these? Other options perhaps Dulux Dusted Moss 2 or 3 but again, no samples. DH is fed up with little tins every where and £3 here and £3 there.

Help!

Or, what about gauze mid?

French gray?

sleepcrisis · 18/11/2013 15:28

Yes that's what I
suggested, it is very green? I do t want anything too green but on the other hand for want anything too fresh, too cold or too beige!

I have French grey light in my sitting room and its lovely. Quite warm but not as beige as rolling fog. A warm grey.i have f&b all white on the woodwork as its quite a dark room otherwise i would have gone darker

spotty26 · 18/11/2013 17:45

I have had French grey pale and dark in my bathroom. Lovely greigey colour. Dusted Moss 3 is my new fave though, just a really versatile neutral more grey than beige. But not too cool.

I have pics of both on my blog. The bathroom pics are about 18 months ago, the dusted moss is in my kitchen and my boy's room. Dusted moss 2 is quite greeny, 3 is not though -odd.

sleepcrisis · 18/11/2013 18:17

what is your blog, spotty?

I'm going to have to taake the plunge and order the paint tomorrow!

Just remembered, are you colporter? in which case the grey in your sons room is good, is that dm 3 or 2?

OP posts:
sleepcrisis · 18/11/2013 18:24

and one last annoying Q, which is less green, French grey pale or Dusted moss 2? I think FG mid and DM 3 might be too dark for the room, plus we are having lots of brightly coloured painted furniture going in there so need a light backdrop I think

Fired earth painters grey and crom fog are lovely Have seen both recently in situ and are gorgeous

Eastwickwitch · 18/11/2013 19:41

Noddy can you describe Crom Fog? I've got a sample but it looks very pale compared to the test chart in FE. I'm looking for a pale grey/blue to paint my kitchen cabinets. My painted wood sample appears pale baby blue. Sorry to butt in Sleep, I'm obsessed with paint colours at the moment...

staverton · 18/11/2013 21:03

Interestingly French grey pale appears much more grey than on spottys blog. I can email you a pic if you pm me your email address

spotty26 · 18/11/2013 21:45

Hi sorry did not see the posts yes colporter blog is mine. Dusted moss 3 in my son's (and daughter's and kitchen and family room) room...minor obsession but looks different in each!

spotty26 · 18/11/2013 21:49

Dusted Moss 2 is greenish, 3 is not in my view! DM 3 is q. similar to French grey pale.

sleepcrisis · 19/11/2013 14:27

Ok it's decided I'm going for french grey, pale or mid (not much of a conclusion but hey! I'm getting there!)

LG tuns out to be cheaper than DUlux here (as I'd go for dulux Diamond matt which is £££) so thats why.

It depends how much natural light you've got in the room and what colour the woodwork is on how light/ dark it looks.
If there's lots of natural light is go French grey mid maye with slaked lime woodwork. If its dark room go for French grey pale.
Happy to email you pics or link you to my Pinterest.

sleepcrisis · 19/11/2013 18:16

Would you mind PMing me your pinterest link? THank you!. There is quite a lot of natural light and we'd have trade white eggshell like in the whole house. I love bright white woodwork. I also hate it when I buy paint and then it is so light on the walls. I like a noticable colour which is why I am leaning towards the mid french grey.

I think french grey pale and mid are both pretty light. I want that though as DS has loads of really bright painted furniture and pictures and bedding and I don't want the walls to be too dark. Having said that, I don't want a non-colour!

Pearl is a nice colour but a bit 'fresh' maybe for a hall? yes its a good bathroom colour!

OP posts:
staverton · 20/11/2013 09:26

this
is French grey pale. It looks like this unless room is full of natural light, when it would appear much lighter. I think it's a lovely warm grey/greige.

sleepcrisis · 20/11/2013 09:35

Staverton - in that first picture (from the LG website) its actually french grey dark and mid, with french grey pale on the fireplace. So pretty much white?!

Think will go for mid.

Thanks for all the comments!

Sorry I thought I was linking to the bedroom. Google French grey pale and look for the image with the boy bedroom with Oliver on the wall. That's what it looks like in our sitting room with white woodwork. I will take a pic soon!!

BetterWithCheese · 20/11/2013 20:40

We've just done our sitting room in French Grey - it's gorgeous and not too dark. We have Brilliant White eggshell on the woodwork. I tried about 15 different greys including Dusted Moss 2 and 3 and the lighter versions of French Grey so I feel your pain.

sleepcrisis · 20/11/2013 21:13

Thanks again. That bedroom does look lovely, stavertone. Now I'm even more indecisive!

There are just so many shades to choose from, if I just picked one I'm sure I'll be happy with the result from any of them!

From what you say I think French grey mid will suit. They are quite similar, there's not much in it.
