Overlaying floor throughout Victorian house. No carpet except stairs. Real wood, Amtico, Karndean???

Is real (engineered?) wood a bad idea with two small children and a dog? Is the maintenance too much? We'll have to put something else (tiles?) in the kitchen if we go for wood, obviously.

Or should we go with something we could use throughout, like Amtico?

We have engineered oak in our kitchen and dining room, we have had no problem with it and it looks good one you get used to the knots and uneven shades in the wood. I like carpet in bedrooms. We have Amtico in the bathrooms and it does look lovely but not for a living room. So I think all these options will be fine, it is just personal preference.

We have engineered oak in living areas downstairs. Maintenance-wise it is fine, but I do find it quite noisy with 3 kids thundering about on it - the sound of a box of Lego being upended in a wood floor jangles me! Looks beautiful, though - we have added some lovely rugs for warmth, colour and noise control Smile
