Reclaimed pine floorboards - advice please

We have had reclaimed pine floorboards professionally fitted in our Victorian terrace living room. The carpenter stained and varnished them for us, but they are too 'raw' looking, an orangey yellow. Can anyone advise how to age them a bit? Any recommendations? Would we need to re-sand them?

In order to get a changed look - you would need to sand a little - otherwise what ever finish you apply will not adhere well .

Pine is naturally an orange shade I think. Do you have any left over ? I would sand back a spare board and try some different finishes and waxes on it.

or you could throw a v v v big party? Smile

Thanks for the comments. We don't have any left over, no, which is a shame. We are thinking of painting them instead - a pale grey I think.

Nice idea re. party!

Pine will be quite orange naturally, you could paint them? Or stain them a darker colour? Try putting 'floorboards' into Pinterest search box to give you ideas.

Use a primer first, and a knot concealer, and then use specialist floor paint otherwise it will chip. Someone I know used farrow and ball primer/knot concealer/two coats of farrow and ball floor paint and it looks lovely.
