Your local freecycle if you just want it gone and not get any money, or eBay if you are hoping to get some money.

You could put a notice in the shop and have an open day, or ask relatives or friends if they want anything.

Do you have a local buying and selling page on Facebook, found this a good way of getting rid of stuff quickly ?

schmalex · 11/11/2013 15:29

I donated mine to the British Heart Foundation and they came to pick it up.

Or Freegle, if you are in the UK

put it on the doorstep with a sign saying "for sale - £50 - please knock" and it'll disappear in no time.

I've donated to a local charity who refurbish and provide low cost furniture for people who've been homeless. They pick up for free

Bakingnovice · 11/11/2013 20:03

Same here. Donated it to a charity who house homeless people. They collected and were really grateful.

The British Heart Foundation pick up bigger stuff which is helpful.

dottygamekeeper · 11/11/2013 20:23

If you want to sell it, I have found Gumtree very quick and no hassle

Freecycle.

MadBusLady · 11/11/2013 21:14

I tried BHF once in Manchester and they were useless. Didn't turn up the first slot I booked (for which I had to stay home) and then when they did turn up wouldn't take most of the furniture! They claimed they couldn't sell it. It was all very solid pine stuff in good condition, but the only thing they wanted were the crappy falling apart Ikea drawers. Think they were a bit thick TBH.

So I googled local house clearance people and someone came along two hours later to take it all away.

PastaBeeandCheese · 11/11/2013 21:20

What are you trying to get rid of?

We've just done this and put most stuff on eBay. We were really surprised at what we got for it. We've covered the cost of our removals and it was mostly Ikea stuff!

Other bits on Freecycle which got a good response.

happylittlevegemites · 12/11/2013 10:00

What about asking the people moving in? We're up-sizing, our buyers are down-sizing and they have very kindly given us some bits and pieces (wardrobe, drawers, desk and bed) which we are very grateful for.

happylittlevegemites · 12/11/2013 10:01

SELLERS are downsizing. Oops!

brakoa · 19/11/2013 10:39

where do you live? i want some sofas and dining room furniture. i could take them off you if you don't live far from borehamwood

queenebay · 19/11/2013 10:43

Salvation Army will take stuff

Pannacotta · 19/11/2013 21:12

Local charity or Gumtree are best IME.
