All You Bathroom Lovers - What Shower Enclosure Do I Need??

Hi all, I'm hoping you bathroom lovers can point me in the right direction on this. I am looking for an 800mm bi-fold shower door and an 800mm x 1200mm shower tray but have no idea what brands to consider. I don't want to end up at Bathstore or similar out of ignorance although if they're good then I'm happy to go for them.

For the shower tray, I'm hoping for anti-slip features (though not vital) and that it sits as low to the floor as possible while still leaving space for the waste (which will be on the short 800mm end). It's a full bathroom renovation so I suppose the shower could be set into the floor to achieve this.

I have no idea where to start. I tried calling Aqualux (brand stamped on my last shower door) but they were completely unable to help with technical questions over the phone and are yet to reply to my email. I've also got the Matki catalogue after all the rave reviews on here but they are serious money! Not sure I could stretch to that just yet...

For the door, I just need one that will open and close smoothly without falling apart after a year! Beyond that, do I need 6mm or 8mm glass - what benefit does the extra 2mm give to the shower experience?
What other brands should I be looking at? I'm sure I read somewhere that bi-fold shower doors work best on rollers rather than on sliders and I'm pretty sure the Aqualux bi-fold we had was on sliders. Should I therefore not consider them?

Basically, I need a shower enclosure that's sturdy and going to last a good few years but won't cost the Earth!

Any and all tips gratefully received.

TIA

the only thing i can recommend is that you get glass which has the anti limescale protection stuff on it if you live in a hard water area. we have it on our shower screen (majestic) and it looks like new over 5 years later. ours is majestic, but a lot of other providers offer the same thing

Thank you! I'd never even heard of Majestic before so I shall go have a look at them now.

Ive had 2 matki showers & TBH I don't think they're any better than a cheaper brand. The marketing is though.

Thank you MaryShelley, I'll look in to them.

I'm a sucker for marketing, Eastwick so its good to hear that in this case, I'm justified in avoiding!!

Anyone else willing to recommend their shower enclosure?

I was holding out for a matki like this ex-display jobbie but ended up going for 2 of these for mine and dd ensuite

Love the modern look and great price.

Well, I decided to go for a Mira tray, mainly as it was the only stone resin one I found with the waste in the center of the short end, most others had it on the long side or in a corner.

For the door, I've narrowed it down to either a Roman door (purely cos I liked it in my local posh independent bath showroom) or a Coram door which seems to have lots of good reviews on t'internet.

My plumber has been useless at recommending anything, just keeps saying I won't go wrong if I go for a branded product Hmm

Thanks everyone!
