noise travelling through wall from neighbours house

This will sound really stupid - anyway I live in a converted Victorian flat (mortgaged), the ground floor and part of upstairs (huge house) is mine. we're in a terrace.

Next door we had new neighbours move in during the summer. I don't know if they've got a new shower or something but the noise in my bedroom from 5.30am is really loud - it must come through the walls or something. the dad gets up then and then the mum, it sounds like a particularly strong pump.

I know I have noise sensitivity sometimes but I can hear this even with gel earplugs and I don't get up until 7.30am.

what can I do? I can't ask them to not get up/shower. I think I was spoiled as previous neighbours worked away during part of the week and the partner of previous neighbour got up 8am so not a problem.

Piglet that doesn't help... I have too many clothes etc as it is and more wardrobe space would just be like NO. I don't care if it exapnds to fill space available! Smile

OP - Have you actually spoken to the neighbours about it? It might be a really simple thing such as them insulating the cupboard it's in.

HelloBoys · 15/11/2013 11:12

thenicknameIwanted - no not spoken yet. I MAY do. Am thinking of doing mince pies and mulled wine and inviting general neighbours round and then bringing this up then. would feel more comfortable doing that.

See I don't want to come across as "neighbour from hell who complains about any noise etc" and we're sadly or nicely in a peaceful dead quiet area. So I think any new sound is amplified. I just don't want to come across as paranoid. The earplugs work well for now and like I said getting decorating done in New year so it can wait til then. I am also wondering I didn't seem to notice it in summer so maybe it was NOT broken and has since... hmm?

Preciousbane - I will do that. Honestly just did think that the other day this IS a fairly recent problem so maybe their shower is either broken or they got a new one. Unlikely a new one as was chatting to them recently and they said the move had wiped them out financially etc.

I think you probably should ask them if they have a new shower as it's quite noisy, you don't have to be aggressive or confrontational about it so I don't think it should be a problem. They will probably be embarrassed that you can hear it and try to help quieten it a bit. As I say it may be something really simple to fix but it's quite major if it's waking you up. At the moment they haven't a clue that it's an issue.

Good Luck.
