Boiler and cylinder not compatible - help! Do I have any legal comeback?

hi. I've posted on here before about issues with the boiler cutting out a couple of weeks ago. After a long running saga which involved 2x visits from Worcester Bosch, it turns out that the unvented cylinder (MAIN brand) and the Worcester Bosch are not compatible. I've had a letter today from WB confirming this, they say the cylinder is not compatible with their integral diverter. I also spoke to MAIN who confirmed that their cylinder wasn't compatible, and any workaround would render the warranty invalid and would mean shutting down one of the safety features. They say this is documented that the two systems are not compatible and the installer should have checked first.

I'm now stuck! My installer is insisting this change will work, but I've told him I'm not letting him do any more work unless he can provide written confirmation that both manufacturers agree, but I've a feeling he's not going to be able to do this

Whenever I call now, his wife answers the phone. I can't get hold of him.

What can I do here? Do I have any legal comeback? Surely he can't install something that he should have checked wasn't compatible? what should I do next?

Have you paid him any money for the work done/being done? If not then I would withhold payment until you are in agreement. I would put into writing your concerns and post it to your installer along with the information from the Main and WB companies and finally how you would like the situation to be resolved. It sounds dodgy that he isn't willing to speak with you on the telephone.

If he's doing work in your house you should have been given, in writing, your right to cancel. If he hasn't done this - then you have the right to cancel and insist on your money back . By law anyone selling you something of some service in your home or place of work , is required to give you you right to cancel and from the date they issue that to you, you have 7 days to change your mind .
Check it out with a solicitor if you don't believe me - but the law has been in place since 2008 !!

I hope this proves to be a way out for you, so that you can get someone in who knows what they are doing as your safely is paramount ! :-)

He should be Gas Safe registered so take itvup with them. They will send an inspectorvto check his work and he then has to put itvright orvrisk penalties from them.

He's been paid in full, as for the first 10 days it seemed to work fine. He called tonight and gave me a big schpeel about how he'd been talking about how he's been talking to v senior people at WB etc. I've called MAIN myself and have their engineer coming on Wednesday.

Managed to get an example letter from CAB to send to him should I not be satisfied with the resolution
