Anyone know anything about boilers?

Since the boiler man serviced our boiler two weeks ago it takes a long time for hot water to kick in.
If I want a bowl of hot water the hot water kicks in by the time the bowl is 3/4 of the way full so I get a bowl of luke warm water.
The boiler is one cupboard away from the sink, so distance should not be an issue.
Is this normal or even good? The boiler main explained he changed something that makes it more efficient, but it doesn't feel like it given that I waste so much water waiting for the hot water to kick in.
Has he done something good to the boiler or should I complain?

Thanks.

I am going to guess that you have a combi boiler, and that it has a "keep hot" or an "eco" option.

The "keep hot" means that it runs frequently, to keep a small store of hot water inside the boiler. The Eco means that it switches the flames off until hot water is required.

In the same way as keeping a kettle simmering all day in case you want to make tea, uses more energy than boiling a potful only when required.
It is especially inefficient to run a boiler for frequent short periods.

It's your choice whether you want to save money or save time.

If you go for the "keep hot" mode it is not wasted money and heat - that tiny bit of gas used keeping the water warm is also adding a tiny bit of warmth to your house.
I would have the "keep warm" function on (I have in my home).
If you are home most of the time and drawing hot water rehularly throughout the day - as I do.
Different if you are out most of the time.
