How much to replace a bath?

And how long is a piece of string?!

Currently we have a normal, oblong 12 year old bath, mixer-taps-with-shower-extension-hose up one end, and a shower curtain on a spring loaded pole. We don't use this as a shower at all, putting the curtain up only if we have guests. the bath, taps and WC are configured like this

The DSs are getting to an age where they would prefer a shower to a bath, so I am thinking about replacing the bath with a P shaped one like this but note, there's a WC right next to the P bit (see first image)! SO having the glass screen that swings open probably isn't a great idea.

Any idea how much you think this would cost? Bear in mind we won't need a power-shower as we have a Megaflo.

TIA

I can only comment on the suitability of the P shaped bath and advise against it! We've recently moved into a house with one and it'd awful. It's quite uncomfortable and just massive around the shower part which makes sitting on the toilet next to it such a squeeze.
I asked a plumber how much it would cost to replace it with a normal bath and he just said it would be a biggish job especially as the floor and walls would need retailing

We had something almost identical to what you're considering back in 2009. We had the whole bathroom done, including changing pipes, wall tiles, floor tiles, new bathroom suit and in total it cost 12K. From memory I remember being quite surprised at how cheap the bath was, I expected it to be more expensive.
This shape really works for us as we have a 2.5yr old DD so loves bath time.
Hope this helps.

12k??? Is that usual??

If the space you currently have between the bath and the loo is similar to the one in the picture, I'd advise against getting a bath that is wider at that end.

Instead of a solid screen though, you could go for a folding one - www.google.com/search?q=folding+shower+screen+glass&rlz=1C1CHMO_enIE500IE500&espv=210&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=MTB0Uq_JEqaM7Abyy4GgCQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=631#facrc=&imgdii=&imgrc=8oq--YUKBk7ONM%3A%3BhiVKXJzUg53SMM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.jtspas.co.uk%252Fekmps%252Fshops%252Fjtspasni%252Fimages%252Fidentiti-4-fold-bath-screen-800mm-wide-folding-439-p.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.jtspas.co.uk%252Fapril-showers-196-c.asp%3B398%3B714 something like this. That way it folds flat against the wall to the width of one panel when not in use, so you won't have a problem with it hanging over the loo.

And it would probably help if I did the link properly Blush

Thanks, all. Really useful food for thought. I do wonder if we might be cramping the space between the WC and the P of the bath. My other idea was to 'slide' the bath along its wall, and changing the tap end around, so we'd have a 3' gap at that end, next to the WC. I think there's be enough room for the P shape behind the opening bathroom door... but I gather the relocating of the plumbing is among the more expensive things to do?

I wondered if anyone would remark on the extra water needed to fill a P bath? Or do most people actually only shower in it 90% of the time? I like an evening bath, myself!

WE have had a P shape bath for years and love it.
Can you not make some card board templates just to check sizes?
If you can do basic DIY its not rocket science to fit either.
Use Push on pipe fittings and flexi hoses for the water, push fit for the waste, most DIY / plumbing shops will help out

I agree with bimbariba, we have a p shaped bath in the family bathroom and I really hate it for bathing in, works great as a shower, kids happy to bath in, but I find it really uncomfortable to lie in. Try lying in one before you buy, I'd love to rip ours out.

Totally Lala! It's just so narrow that my shoulders don't fit properly if when I take a bath and I'm only an average size woman! So uncomfortable! It's a really bad choice for anyone who wants a good comfortable bath.
