We've just had some windows replaced and they were 1220 x 1810 £300 and 1350 x 2390 £390 fitted. Our small bathroom 1220 x 1220 was £240 fitted. Cant remember doors though as they were ages ago

Thanks awks. That's really useful. Excuse the big clumsy typing fingers!

We had six windows put in for about £2,300 about 2 years ago.
Definitely choose a small local company rather than the big companies who advertise on TV.

We've just had new windows put in by a guy who's started his own company (so small). Whole of three bed semi, except ground floor extension at the back was £2,800. That was two large bay windows, two medium size windows, small porch window, stairway window, bathroom window and downstairs toilet window. Includes coloured glass in the top panes in the front window and we're really happy with it all :)

EachAndEveryHighway · 01/11/2013 19:38

I had all 13 windows done in January for £5,800. Although that included about 18 months of interest which I paid off early, so actually whole lot came to less than £5000. (UPVC not wood by the way).

poocatcherchampion · 01/11/2013 21:09

wow! much cheaper than the first quote we've had!

wonkylegs · 01/11/2013 22:36

Really depends on the size of the windows - what glass etc.
I'm having 3 small (for our house) bathroom windows which are about 1.2m x .9m replaced in UPVC for £1500.
We are also having 20 large sash windows (each about 2.4mx1.2m) replaced in hardwood at that's costing us £27k.
Both prices fully fitted and Inc VAT.

PinkHat1 · 03/11/2013 12:44

We recently had 7 windows replaced with UPVC windows costing just under £4,000 inc VAT. This included 4 very large windows and then 3 smaller ones.

I have spent a fair bit of time looking for new windows and have found that some companies are doing window scrappage (Anglian for instance), but this is nothing to do with the Government and I don't yet know how much of a saving this will be. I'm considering going to a small business though tbh as I have a lot of work to be done and would like to keep to one company if I can and hopefully get a good discount.

PigletJohn · 03/11/2013 13:55

scrappage is just a marketing trick to make you think you are getting a bargain. Plastic windows seem to be a few £hundred each.

Beware of plastic doors, they are not very good and the window companies make a vast profit out of them. Find out the cost of a good-quality hardwood door and frame, including locks, fitted by a skilled joiner and I will be surprised if it costs more than half the price of a plastic door.

ForFawkesSakeNoGuyForSolo · 03/11/2013 22:39

Yes I did wonder if that was what it was Piglet, but it's worth people knowing about it at the same time if they, like me are looking to replace windows.

PigletJohn · 03/11/2013 22:46

I sell £10 notes for £25 each, but provided you sign up today, I will give you a £2 discount.

Hmm
valiumredhead · 04/11/2013 17:49

I got a new door,3 sets of patio doors and 8 windows for 12k iirc, that was 6 years ago.

Sorry to hijack the thread with a stupid question but is it possible to get new windows fitted in the winter?? Following the thread with interest as we desperately need new windows but I wasn't sure if we would need to wait now.

EachAndEveryHighway · 04/11/2013 22:07

It was snowing when mine were fitted 3boys. They seemed to manage ok.

valiumredhead · 04/11/2013 22:15

Yeah, mine were done in winter.

My best advice would be pick a company and let them give you a quote then leave it 3 months and they will come up with a special 'discount'Hmm

PointyDogs · 04/11/2013 22:33

We've just had ours done - 4-bed detached, so three big windows, 3 medium, 4 small and a large sliding patio door. Cost just over £4000 for white upvc, and a mix of side hinged/top hinged windows. Front/back doors would have been an extra £800 or so each. This was a smallish local firm who have done a great job, all done in a little under two days. We had quotes from a couple of bigger companies who were massively more expensive (think double and you're getting close). We were especially unimpressed by one of the big sellers, whose sales technique was to basically tell us how bad local companies are, how locals would only supply basic, off-the-shelf low spec windows and would bodge the job from day one, and only big nationals could supply decent quality, bespoke windows. We showed him the door and went with the locals.

Thank you, I'll get ringing round tomorrow then.
