Anyone used an on-line conveyancer? Any good?

Just called up the solicitor who handled our house purchase last time for a quotation for doing the work this time. Wow - it's much more expensive than I remembered. It would apparently save us at least £1000 to use an on-line firm instead - but are they any good? I would be grateful to hear of anyone's experiences. Thanks.

Wow that is a big saving; when we looked it was only about £100 in it so we went with the local sol, and so far we've been grateful we did, they've been good and it's great to be able to drop things into them (and pick up extra info at the same time) especially as we want to move quickly - before Christmas. But for £1000 savings I'd be very tempted to give the online lot a go, just check the T&Cs and make sure it is an equivalent quote and there won't be extra charges for searches and the like

we did, like everything it depends on the individual doing your work. the first one was awful, we asked for our file to be moved and the second one was brilliant.

We used an online comparison site to find ours who worked out really cheap compared to some. There was a difference of over £1k in prices! Type in compare conveyancers on google and Lots of comparison sites come up. Quotes in minutes x

Have used Premier Property Lawyers in Leicester twice. Most impressed and would highly recommend. However, I am now working for an online conveyancer and can honestly say I would never recommend them! They have taken on so much work, they cannot cope with it, the result being many unhappy, complaining customers. Sorry that this isn't particularly helpful!

i haven't, but our buyers did when we sold 2 years ago, and it was a bloody nightmare, purely down to their solicitors who were so slow and not local so everything was being sent by post. the estate agents told us the online/postal conveyancers are always a nightmare. (then again, the local solicitors we used were crap too, but at least when they were dragging their feet, or claiming to have lost documents, or taking a day's holiday on the day we were meant to exchange, we could go and sit in their office and shout until they actually got on with it)

We used a 'normal' solicitor last time, but are currently using Premier Property Lawyers. We are having a GREAT service this time, and it is cheaper. We have a very proactive person, I have read reviews that suggests it's a luck of the draw thing, but our experience has- to date- been positive. They also keep everything in an online form for you to download, print and return paperwork. Some things can also be uploaded which has saved a lot of time. This system gives you a record of what's going on/ should be happening which would enable us to chase things up- nor that we've needed to yet.

Good luck with your move!

Also used Premier Property Lawyers and all went very smoothly. They have an excellent online system which keeps everything in one place..perfect when moving house!

I did, I used a comparison site and got a firm in Halifax.

A lot of forms to fill in at the beginning, but once you do the prep that is it really. To move in cost me £1500 in local fees, to move out 11 years later - £270 Hmm

All completed whilst I was on holiday - I got a call from my beach lounger to tell me the money was in the bank. Bliss....
