We've just had the quote back from the builders/double glazing manufacturers and I'm a bit
as it's about £500 more than I expected.
For a set of French doors (1.8m x 2.1m), a kitchen window and a utility window, the cost is just over £2300. The windows are Kommerling (which I believe are a very good make).
I have NO double glazing experience at all, having never installed any before and having always preferred timber windows in the past but we can't afford them and it's round the back anyway
My dilemma is that the French doors are a standard size. We could probably get some off the shelf for a few hundred quid less, if not half the price (they're coming in at £1100 ish). My worries are:
- they'd be inferior quality and less secure (but they'd still do the job)
- they wouldn't match the other windows
- I'm being shafted by my builder paying over the odds
So do I just suck it up and pay for the good stuff, eating into an already tight budget, or get the cheaper ones and possibly regret it?
Opinions? I'm open to double glazing suggestions...I've just heard so many horror stories!
TIA
