Plumbing a new washing machine - keeps leaking!

Recently moved into a new house.

The water inlet pipe has a y joint on it where previously it has been used to feed two washing machines.

The easiest thing, I think, would be to remove the y and attach blue inlet hose there, just after valve. However thisseems completely stuck, and will not be removed even with pliers.

So I bought a cap, and fitted it to the other side of the y. However no matter how careful I am not to cross thread etc, it keeps on leaking. Any ideas how to sort this? Would a plumber come out for such a trivial task?

Ptfe tape? ( at least I think that's what it's called?)

plastic connectors, pah.

Buy a pair of Water Pump Pliers to uncrew the old rubbish. screw on the new brass fitting with care, suppoerting the hose to prevent it dragging. You might see a set of pliers which include them at a good price, and are useful to have, e.g. in aldi. They are much bigger than ordinary pliers and the jaw is adjustable in notches.

PTFE tape is excellent for a couple of types of joint, but not for washing machine pipes, where the seal is the black rubber washer. If the washer is damaged or mossing it will leak.

hold the valve steady, to prevent it turning, with the same force that you use to turn the nut. These are useful
