Are you around Piglet John? problems with my new boiler

Hi there. So, got a new worcester bosch 24cdi boiler fitted a couple of weeks ago (you may remember we got a megaflo in the loft at the same time - we still have significant water hammer btw from the downstairs loo)

Anyway, last wednesday the boiler randomly went off, no power to it at all, no blue light on the front and no display. I hadn't touched anything all day. Installer insisted I must have switched something off. I DIDN'T! Then bizarrely, an hour later it came on again when I hadn't touched anything.

All working fine until yesterday, when it randomly went off at 6pm, then came back on again at 8pm. Was dead this morning when I woke up, and then randomly started at 9am. During all of this we aren't touching any controls or switches.

I have noticed however that when the boiler does start working the radiator heat is just through the roof scalding hot, as is the water. It's almost as if it's overheating and going into auto shut-down, but there are no faults showing on the display, as there is no power to the display at all.

My installer doesn't seem to want to know, so I'm left here with a boiler not working and a 16 month old. I've got worcester bosch coming out tomorrow, but I'm concerned they say it's an electrical fault and not a boiler problem and don't do anything.

Surely if the installer got his electrician to do the work he should be liable for fixing this too?

I would guess that the switched live from the controls has actually been used as a live for the boiler. This would mean power to the boiler is only avaliable when external controls are on. Does it go on and off at the same time every day?

I see you have WB coming out. There engineers are very good usually and will be able to diagnose the fault. They may not repair if the fault is with the wiring as I suspect it is but it will be easier getting the fitter to return once you know more than he does! (not difficult me thinks)

sorry, only just seen this, have been busy with fan mail, but if WB are coming out I expect, as above, they will track it down.

Good points by Salty, but the apparent overheat is odd.

Sometimes a water drip onto the control board can have strange eletrical effects.

I would have suspected bad connections somewhere

Have you had a Fluidmaster filling valve ftted to the WC cistern yet?
