Where/how do you store bikes if you don't have side access or a garage?

Not sure if this is the right place for this..

We currently live in a rented house that has side access to the back garden as well as a garage. We are soon to be buying a new place which unfortunately has neither. Me, dh & dd2 use our bikes pretty much all week so we can't be traipsing them through the house twice a day. We'll need to construct some sort of bike store in the front garden so wondered if anyone else has this problem and what their solution to it was. It would ideally be something we could either lock the bikes to or be lockable itself. It would also be good if it was covered.

What about this sort of thing - there are cheaper versions available I'm sure. More secure if you have enough room inside the house.

Unfortunately new house is small so no chance of being able to store inside. It has to be an outside thing. Don't think the keter one would be big enough. I think we're going to need something similar to proper bike racks but can't find any for home use.

I have a cycle store shed - it is fine for two bikes and would just about fit under a work top-height window

We have this in cream. It's been great. Fits two adult and two large child's bikes with room to spare and opens upwards so you don't need a wide door opening area.

It's insurance friendly too and super secure; ours just sits bolted on the ground but our friends went belt and braces and got theirs cemented in by our builder friends.

We live in an area rife with bike theft (and theft in general) and no one's ever attempted it. Well worth the money. You get two Oxford heavy duty padlocks with it too.

We store our bikes high up on the wall in the stairwell on a sort of pulley system. You can't see them unless you look up. It's no bother at all to get them down. We have a tiny house but a very high stairwell and it's just dead space otherwise.

We have this one and love it, but it's not cheap.

That's the one we have OddBoots. Its ace. Worth every penny.

I do like that MissBetsey. We would need good security so that is a bonus. I also like the up and over door.

We store them at the top of the stairs (upstairs flat) on a bike rack. Takes up no floor space because they are on the wall.

we have very small front garden and hedge in front and so we have built a bike shelter, no sides just a sloping roof and we have a big sort of iron ring slotted into the front wall that we can then chain our bikes to under the shelter - no probs so far

bunjies · 28/10/2013 10:19

Hi fruitcorner. Did you build it yourself? Dh is a dab hand at diy so this may be a cheaper way of sorting something out quickly before investing in something more purpose built.

I have one of these. I'm no expert, but it looks and feels very secure. It's well thought-out for storage too - shelves and hooks for locks, helmets, etc.
