Rather stylish extractor fan - but will it work?

I don't like kitchen canopy style extractor fans but thought this one might look ok as it looks like a light. Will it work as well though?

That is not an extractor it just recirculates the air. Avoid!

Pagwatch · 23/10/2013 06:22

Avoid.
I was talked out of these by the company that designed my kitchen.
An hour on the Internet and speaking to two people who had similar models and I was convinced.
They look lovely - don't work.

kmdesign · 23/10/2013 06:30

This is a fancy and expensive light fitting that just recirculates air. And its not very well made either.

If you have to recirculate air and like a fancy extractor it doesnt get better than this - www.falmec.co.uk/category/e-ion.html

Thanks I now realise that we need an extractor fan.

kmdesign - it's not so much I want a fancy one I just don't like the hoods that are everywhere. Some of those look rather nice so I will get prices for them. I'd rather have something that looks like a light than something that looks like an oven hood.

How about one that sits flush to the ceiling - Siemens do one, I'm sure others do. Cost about £1,000 though.

MummytoMog · 23/10/2013 11:25

Or you could not have one at all...

We didn't have one in our last kitchen. It was fine, just opened the window now and then. I really hate how they look and they just don't seem to make any bleeding difference. If we had one, it would be one of those that sits in a wall cupboard out of the way most of the time. But in our new kitchen I'm leaning towards NOTHING.

MrsTaraPlumbing · 23/10/2013 20:20

That looks great but very expensive to not work.
Also expensive ave you looked at AEG designer hoods:

CarlaBrooni · 24/10/2013 08:25

Some nice ones there MrsTara. I didn't realise there were so many options so I'll have to find out about all the different types and what we need (but I know it's extraction now!)

I've got the Siemens flush ceiling one. It's very good and looks fab. But yes was ££££.

CarlaBrooni · 25/10/2013 15:49

Dimsum, so does it fit in to the top of the kitchen ceiling??

If so, I suppose that only works depending on how high your ceilings are? How much was it?

OP posts:
OnePlanOnHouzz · 25/10/2013 21:58

Heat rises - so doesn't matter how high your ceilings realistically - although might take longer ,because of the higher volume, in a 4m high room I suppose !

annalouiseh · 25/10/2013 23:05

flush ceiling hoods need to be 1.5mtrs max above worktop level to work really, most manufactures state this or there will be no point having one

OnePlanOnHouzz · 26/10/2013 08:24

luckily most homes have approx 2.4m heigh ceilings and approx .9m high hobs then !! :-)
