I am buying a property which is approx 12 yrs old. It has been empty since December but the water has been turned off since then for insurance purposes. There is a water board guy coming out on Thursday to switch water on so we can check there are no major problems with it before we complete the sale. Apart from turning on the taps can anyone tell me what else to look for during this time. Thanks in advance. Smile

If it is 12 years old I expect it has a plastic incoming watet main (blue). See if the outside diameter is 20mm or 25mm or 32mm. The water co man might tell you. Bigger is better. If it has a hot water cylinder white is very good. I expect it has a water meter. If there are no leaks the bubble will stop spinning once the system is full. Look at the brand of boiler. Taps should not drip and should not need any strength to turn them on and off.

TVM
I have taken a note of all those points. I'm half tempted to take a plumber with me. Just don't know if it's too small a job.

If you can do take a plumber with you, my husband often accompanies people visiting houses they plan to buy.

Ideally it will be the plumber you have used for many years and who will continue to work for you in the new property. In this case no need to worry about it being a small job.
