Wireless programmable thermostat

Hi

we recently had a new combi boiler installed and we got a Honeywell 921 wireless thermostat as part of the package. I know Honeywell have a good reputation and had assumed this would come with fairly basic functionality to match our existing older device. However to my surprise it doesn't allow different programming per day of week and doesn't have a 'boost' button override. It's very frustrating.
Having done some research on Honeywell it doesn't appear that they offer a 7-day wireless thermostat with extra hour boost (can get them wired but we really wanted the advantages of a wireless unit) so now I'm looking at alternative manufacturers. Slightly Shock at the prices and wish I had just been smart enough to choose the right unit to start with but not much I can do about that...

Any recommendations for make or model?

Thanks in advance

The best one I know is the Honeywell CM907, which is wired, so not what you want Have you looked at the Honeywell website? Not all retailers stock all available products but maybe there is something you could order?

ACL Drayton and Danfoss are usually very good, but for programmable stats, Honeywell seems to be best at the moment

There are two German brands which I would have expected to be good but I have heard poor reports about them.

Thanks PigletJohn, I was hoping you'd be lurking Smile

Yes I had another look at the Honeywell site and actually the CMT927 is probably the one we need (the 'party' mode appears to be a confusing term for the boost function). I am somewhat in Shock at the £110+ price tag though. If we were to go for a fixed stat (say) what sort of installation cost should I factor in?

What's worse is that the CMT927 is more or less the same price as the CMT921.

fitting a replacement stat to an existing wired point is a half-hour job (including tea and biscuits)

However if you have to run a new cable, then the time (and dust) of chasing the walls will drive the cost. Sometimes you can run a cable under a floor or above a ceiling. If by chance your living room is on the other side of the wall the boiler is on, you only need to drill a hole. If you can put up with surface mini-trunking it can be done without chasing the walls, and can be run in the junction of wall and ceiling, or out of sight above wall units. If you have the cable chased into the wall it will need replastering and redecoration. There is no reason to expect a good heating engineer or electrician to be a good plasterer.

somebody on ebay (or MN) will buy your old one, especially if you still have the instructions and guarantee.

The CM907 is so popular that some discounters are not able negotiate a reduced bulk price, and don't stock it.

Try here

We had the 927 and it's exactly what you are after.

We've got a Honeywell wireless thermostat and it definitely does allow different programmes per day of the week Confused. It also has a "boost" in that you can manually put the temp up whenever you like without it affecting the programming, or you can use that weird "party" mode and specify how long you want the one off change to occur.

Will check the model no. for you when I get home.

Ah, sorry ignore me. Didn't read the thread properly. Looking online it's the CM927 we've got which you already know about. Smile

MrsHarford · 21/10/2013 21:44

Thanks anyway sleepyhead, I appreciate you taking the time to have a look.

And Thanks also to our very nice boiler installation engineer. I gave him a call this morning to explain the situation and he came out this evening and swapped out the C921 for the CM927. Free. Of. Charge. Result!! Smile

(And we'll be getting him out now to fix our gas fire so hopefully he'll benefit as well)

As an aside really greatful to this thread as we've just moved into a house with a Honeywell and hadn't thought about using the party setting as a boost option! Great idea and will be doing that from now on so pleased it worked out op!
