Tiling Problem - What should I do at the threshold?

I have one room which will have tiles 7mm thick leading into another room where different tiles 9mm thick will be fitted.

Both have concrete floors.

There will be a height difference at the threshold.

I want to use a solid oak threshold strip.

Should I go for a T section with a 10mm rebate and raise the 7mm tiles gradually, as I lay them, so they fit snugly under the T bar? Will just 1mm be enough to enable the 9mm tiles to be slipped under (bearing in mind the tile adhesive will be a mm or so)?

The alternative would be to get a T bar with a 12mm rebate, but that would mean raising the 7mm tiles by 5mm - which is a lot - I think? But this would give the 9mm tiles 3mm for tile adhesive.

Or is there another way? I'm just trying to find a neat solution that covers the cut edge of the tile.

Thank you.

I'd go for the 10mm rebate. I bet the adhesive won't build it up by more 1mm - just may be make sure it is thinly spread at the threshold end.

Thanks bunchoffives

This is a nightmare. The kitchen installer says he'll tile the floor but won't do the thresholds.

Get another one? or threaten to? Unless it's your DH? Grin

He's a professional fitter - and it's too late to get a different one Sad
