Q on bath sealant

I did the bath sealant today. Finished it at 4pm. One part deep about 2cm x 1.5cm width in corner.

When can I use bath? It says 24hrs for 6mm deep on tube. I will need bath Monday am the latest.

Will it be ready? How do I know when it is ready?

It's still wet and sticky at present.

Yep 24 hours - by then it will have formed a skin.

I'm sorry if I'm going to be a harbinger of bad news.... but you did fill the bath with cold water before applying the sealant didn't you?

(If not, when you do fill the bath the sealant will detach and the seal will be broken :( ) Probably the best thing to do if that's the case is scrape it all off before it sets and start again :(

thanks bunchoffives....yep filled bath and sat on edge whilst applying silicone. Hope its ok as not a 'continuous bead' but smoothed to make if as one.

Cant wait for a shower LOL!

PHEW thank goodness, it's a horrible job removing it!

Think smoothed into a continuous bead should be ok as long as there are no bubbles in it.

I know took me 4 hours to remove it all and clean and 3 tubes!

If it doesnt work I will have to pay some one as it is impossible to remove even with sealant remover!

Got lots on bath away from edge.

How do I tidy it up? Or have I lost the chance when it was wet/new on?

If it's separate to the bead you want to leave then you can peel it off. If it's joined to the bead that is actually sealing the bath then leave well alone or you will just undo your work and break the seal.

I suppose if you do want to get it off and start again you could scrape it off with a knife. I've used a small veg knife in the past that was good. Still took ages though. Washing up liquid on your finger to smooth the sealant is my best tip for next time!

Have you seen this site? I go to it whenever I've got a job I'm unsure of - when I posted they thought I was a man lol and started a lot of matey bonding/banter Grin. It was quite sociologically interesting. There are professionals and DIYers on there so you always get brill advice. Lots of videos too.
