Kitchen sink under the window...

This might be a daft question but here goes...

I'm planning our new kitchen layout and we're having an inset sink. When marking out where the sink goes under the window, how do I make sure it's central? Is it the bowl that should be central to the window (and so the drainer slightly over to one side), or the whole sink unit (which would mean that the bowl bit is slightly to one side). Confused
Does that make sense?
Which option looks right?

It's not daft.
I'd want to be square on when standing at the sink, so I think the bowl should be central under the window.

I'm putting the bowl centre on (but not having a drainer).

Two votes for bowl in the centre. Thanks!

Surely it depends on the size of the sink - if it's a bowl only sink then fine, but if it's got a large drainer I think it would look better to have the whole unit central rather than one bit right over to the side?

It's a pretty standard size 1.5 bowl with drainer, inset not undermounted.

It's the tap position that I alway put central - as this is what's noticeable from more angles ! The sink is only really visible when you are at it ...
But take into consideration the cabinets beneath too - as it's easier not to have to cut into side panels ! :-)

Ah yes, that makes sense. Central tap would definitely be the thing! I'm going to see my kitchen designer tomorrow so I'll ask about it.

I'm having kittens about kitchen layouts. FFS why does it have to be so complicated! I just can't settle on a plan at the moment because I'm so indecisive.

Ahhh you and many others ! Gets confusing when you are getting several people out to plan and they all come up with different ideas !
Pic the best of each !! Or try it yourself even ?!? Ikea's free software is pretty easy to get to grips with :-)

Yay - one that I've already encountered!

My existing sink is half under the window. Am currently getting a new kitchen and both the kitchen designers I used said the sink (including drainer) should be fully under the sink (i.e. tap central). So it's all moving to the left.

Kitchen designers are right - it does look better.

EastwickWitch · 13/10/2013 19:57

I've had several designs for my kitchen. One of the plans had the sink off set from the window & it looked very odd.

Symmetry symmetry symmetry - very important in most design projects !! ( that and listening to what the customer would like - not just designing what you'd like ! ) speaking as a designer !!!

Well I've decided to have a 1.5 bowl ceramic sink central to the window, with tap central too, so although I might be standing slightly to the right, when I look at it the rest of the time everything will be central to the window. I think if it's not, it would irritate me!
